I realize it's early ...

I realize it's early as it is 6:35 AM here in NYC on Monday Morning, 16 Feb. 2009, but I don't remember whether or not we will get another part of Joe's "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly About DCC." or not. I sure hope we do.

Those track plans

Those JPEGs are awful.  I will have another try perhaps with the CTI schematics - sorry!

High Fulney is a work commencing.  It is to be a 28ft x 10ft (8x4metre) free representation of the tracks that once passed through the UK town of Spalding in Lincolnshire. This is to be built in a draughty old lambing shed next to the swimming pool 150m from the house.

Starting in 1848 with the arrival of the Great Northern Railway Spalding's importance as a junction rapidly grew until in 1890 the Midland and Great Northern completed it's E/W link from the Midlands to the important fishing and holiday town of Yarmouth.

Houston, we have a problem...

Well it's not really a big problem but one which isn't making me very happy. It has to do with a specific article in MRH and I find it is insurmountable at the moment. The article is great and the magazine is great too. Howver, the problem is that no matter what I do I find I can't get the article printed out on 8 1/2 x 11 paper. Now it might be that I simply don't know how to get the information to print out on that size paper and if that's the problem I will be grateful to anyone who can teach me how to do it.

Welcome to my Model Railroad Blog

Welcome fellow model railroaders,

I am building a free-lanced HO scale model railroad, The Philadelphia & Delaware County Railroad (P&DC RR), loosely based on the Newtown Square and Cardington Branches of the Pennsylvania Railroad. I have the history of the prototype, photos along the right-of-way, and construction notes at http://home.comcast.net/~pdcrr.

I also tinker with virtual model railroading using Trainz. Here I am trying to depict the branchs in their entirety.

The trouble with car floats

Well here I am at a dead end for the moment. It seems these come up all the time lately but they won't get me down since I know when to ask a question of those who know than me and have more experience model railroading than me as well.

Ground Texture: Trial & Error

I have finally completed putting the plaster/vermiculite mixture down for my scenic base and have painted it my basic earth color. I also got around to painting the valence. I will paint the facia after I complete my scenery. The next step is to put down the ground texturing which, per Joe Fugate's scenery DVD, is a mixture of plaster and dried tempera paint. This sifted onto the scenery base.

Bay Ridge Yard

If the above works, it shopuld be the basic layout of the Bay Ridge car float aprons (along the left side) and the yard areas that support them. You'll note that there is alot of other stuff in the plan including the Long Island Rail Road Lumber Docks which do not exist any more as fart as I know.

Model Railroad Hobbyist Issue One

I've been slowly reading thru MRH premiere issue and it has definitely cut into my model raiload time. But its time well spent since I've learned from I have read and most probably from I haven't gotten to yet. I think Joe and his crew have done a great job and they are all to be commended for what is going to be one of the greatest things to come down the pike since DCC.

What To Do

Being out of the hobby for roughly twenty five years, I'm contemplating what and where to start modeling. My former scale was HO. Looking at my rolling stock and motive power of 25 year vintage, I think I'm better off starting from scratch. This time around I am considering N scale for reasons of space.
