Lesson Learned
After a combat tour in Vietnam, we wrote what are called "after action" reports so that lessons could be passed on for the future. The same is true for model railroading. As the "de-construction" moves forward (or should I say backward), there are some notable lessons to both be learned and passed along to the next generation. Here are some of my observations:
Expertise Wanted
After several attempts to "reorganize" my thoughts with suggestions from my last posting, I have come to the realization that efficient and innovative layout design is not my true forte. I am looking for someone who can incorporate the two designs I like best into a practical and efficient layout for reasonable compensation.
New Layout
Next month the old layout will start to come down and the proposed new, continuous running one will start to take shape. I have attached a diagram (first time working with this program so it is a bit rough) for your comments. The current point-to-point had a number of flaws in its operation and design. So, with the "acquisition" of some new space from my wife, who is being more than gracious since I agreed that a furnace, washer and dryer are essential, I now have a larger area. The new size is 12' x 5' x 30" deep around two support poles.
Redux
I am thinking of dismantling my layout and restructuring it. My point-to-point is about 60% finished but there are some considerations:
Markers/Flags
Does anyone know of a source for the "Extra" and other flags posted on engines and cabooses? I'd like to denote several engines as "Extras" and "Last section" for trains running on my layout and at a local club.
If not commercially made, does anyone have a list of materials, scale sizes and instructions for HO scale locomotives. I was thinking of using stiff paper and small straight pins but would bow to expertise of someone who has done this. Pictures would be helpful for placement as well.
Thanks.
Switch Problem
I have an electrical problem for which I need some advice. The facts are as follows:
Berkshire Revenue Run
Here are some brief clips of the first revenue run for the NKP Berkshire 763 pulling 18 piggyback cars - max grade was 2% across the layout. Enjoy.
New Berkshire
Here are a few photos of my new Bachmann NKP 763 Berkshire from its speed matching and break-in trials today at the Keystone Midland club layout.
Club Video
Here is the link to our recent club Open House http://youtu.be/iw8hbU_h2Wg for you to enjoy. Although we hold 5 per year, the club is open to visitors in the Harrisburg, PA area each Monday evening from 7pm to 10pm with operating sessions the 2nd Monday of each month.
