Steam locos
Spectrum 2-6-6-2 short.
I need some help guys, I'm really frustrated here. I've got a Spectrum 2-6-6-2 that's giving me intermittent short. I've already had a friend hardwire a Digitrax sound chip inside and replaced the circuit board inside the locomotive with the micro-connectors from Micro-Mark.
Near as I can tell, the short only seems to happen with tight curves when the rear truck has moved over to the left far enough. Is there an exposed piece of metal that I'm missing, do I just need to replace the lead wires in the truck?
HOn3 25-Ton Class B Climax - scratch, bash or forgetaboutit?
So as I’m researching possible central Pennsylvania early 1900s prototypes to model, it seems that the narrow gauge railroads that are of the most interest to me all ran Climaxes in the 25- to 35- ton range. The White Deer & Loganton, Eagles Mere Railroad, Lewisburg & Buffalo Valley, Susquehanna & Eagles Mere and the Laurelton Lumber Company all ran Climax locomotives in the 25-ton range.
So... I gotta have one if at all possible.
This blog will be where I keep research, beg for help, document a build or bash, and beg for help. :)
HOn3 4-6-0 build
I had some leftover drivers and a junk boiler from a MDC HOn3 2-8-0, so I decided to build them up into a 4-6-0. First I designed and printed a chassis through Shapeways and test fit the boiler:

Being a C&O fan, and having had one of these in brass a number of years ago, had me interested.
Repowering old Riverossi 4-8-4
Hi fellow hobbiests
I have a Rivarossi 4-8-4 (UP No 844) with what I'm told has a 3 pole motor. I don't know the year of manufacture, only that is old and in good condition and runs great on DC and a DCC conversion is what I have in mind for it.
Container Trains pulled by Steam Engines?
To my knowledge all the containerized trains came along well after most all the steam engines were phased out. Please correct me if I'm wrong?
Kind of bums me out as I have some nice container type trains I want to run on my layout, but I also love steam engines and want to run a number of very nice ones I have as well.
