Photos of fast moving trains

Hi!

I´ve been working a few evenings to get that awesome look of the fast moving locomotive on my layout.
It´s starting to look good, but need a few more tweaks before I´m satisfied.

This photo was taken using a camera tripod, zoom lens and thereby panning with the train movement.
Shutter at 1/30s, f9.6 and ISO400.

My first module - The BIG test

So having completed the wiring of the module it was time for the Big Boy test.

I hooked up my Roco Z21 system, whipped out my iPhone, added a new loco and voila...it worked perfectly!

Even my 22" curve was ok.

Next I tried out the Intermountain BNSF ES44AC.

Bowser H9 valve gear for MDC 2-8-0

Hello everyone

I would like to ask for some advice, please. The May 2002 Model Railroader has a good article upgrading a MDC 2-8-0, the picture at the beginning of the article shows the Loco with valve gear but there's nothing in the body of the article that explains how this was done. On another forum someone suggested that the author used the Bowser H9 valve gear kit, it seem that you would need the cross heads and valve gear hanger as well? I have three MDC kits that I'd like to do this conversion to so any help or advice would be very welcome!

A visit with Boone Morrison

My first office in Hilo (Hawaii) was on the second floor of a 1950's building with a restaurant below. Adjacent is a building that, at the time, was vacant and in need of repair but had been the headquarters of a large sugar plantation (and controlling interest in the long gone Hawaii Consolodated Railway).

HO Scale Bachmann Shay truck assemblies in stock with metal gears

FYI loggers- Not sure how long they've been available but Bachmann has the complete Shay truck assemblies back in stock, and they are equipped with metal gears instead of the old plastic splitters.

Bachmann On30 4-6-0 disassembly (accomplished)

I have been asked to rewire a Bachmann On30 4-6-0 to NMRA spec, but there does not appear to be any obvious "unscrew here, here, and here to remove the locomotive shell.

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thanks, Skoti.

N-Scale Train Run with Video Camera on Flat Car

I received a Polaroid Cube + camera for Father's Day. It is about a 1-1/4 inch cube video/still camera that can be controlled via wi-fi from my iPhone.  The app allows the phone to be the viewfinder and has buttons to control the actions of the camera while it is riding on the train. This is the first run around a portion of the layout so that I can get an idea how it works. It is mounted on a depressed center flat car in front of a BLI 4-8-2 engine.

Making a headlight lens

I have this headlight casting:

I have drilled from the bottom for wires to go to an SMD LED. I want to encase the LED in something that will prevent shorting (it's a brass casting) and also to form a headlight lens. I have experimented with a number of clear adhesives and all have shrunk up on me, useless for a headlight lens. I am seeking any suggestions on what I can use to form the headlight lens.

Steam sound

There has been a great deal of talk about the recent sound releases and upgrades, particularly Loksound and Econami and Tsunami 2, but it seems to all focus on diesels. This is not meant to be a steam or diesel preference debate, I have too many of both. LOL  It is to get the opinions of what steam sounds you have and and like. I have mostly Tsunami, one Econami but a few BLI. I recently had an old PFM CV Texas  tuned up and a WOW sound  decoder installed and I love it.
