Steam locos
Death of a loco due to gear failure; is there a real remedy?
With the number of locomotives that have suffered gear failures of one kind or another (I'm particularly sensitive to failures in Bachmann geared locomotives) I got to wondering if anyone has ever come across a way to have replacement gears fabricated that would not cost one's first-born. NWSL has done a terrific job of trying to address some of these problems but in some cases have had to step away (the Bachmann HO Shay bevel gears are out of production) leaving no alternative I know of but the good will of the original manufacturer (which also expires). There have been
Bachmann Sound Value Climax gear tower issues
Hi all,
I have a Bachmann Sound Value Climax locomotive, and It's had some issues direct from the retailer.
The motor, decoder, speaker & side rods work perfectly, but somewhere in the gear tower, the gears don't mesh. I've taken it apart several times, but I can't figure out where the problem is.
Any advice would be welcome.
Thanks,

Looking for eastern US engine house designs
Hi - I'm aware that this is one of those questions Google image search should be able to answer, but in this case my keywords don't seem to be getting me the answers I'm looking for ... as ever, the hope is that my begging threads here will lead to something good to share with you in time.
I'm contemplating an engine house somewhere on my layout, and I'm looking for a prototype. Except I'm not sure such a prototype exists.

Futuristic Locomotive I2X2 Build
Got your attention quickly, didn't I? Well, ever since I posted this picture on the forums, people have asked for a build log - and after much stalling, a few failed attempts at writing, and the photo appearing in this month's "Yes it's a Model" section, I've finally mustered up the steam to do this.
BNSF Track Measurement Train
I was walking to the library with Christine. We have to cross the BNSF tracks through Longmont, CO, to get there. I wanted to record a train at a grade crossing as a ringtone for my phone. Well, today there was a train approaching as we crossed the tracks. So I got out my phone and used the video to capture the sounds. I wasn't really looking at the train as it approached. I didn't see what it was until I was recording, The video is not the best because I really wasn't thinking "video" when I started. It was an interesting very short train.
