Atlas customline turnout

Hi guys!!!

I am planning a "street running¨ scene for my HO layout and recently got a couple of Walthers street system kits. One include parts to cover the track as if it was covered by concrete slabs. Any way, it mentions it is designed to be use with Atlas Customline turnouts (code 83).  The rest of my turnouts are Walthers DCC ready ones.  If I use one of the Atlas turnouts, is there going to be any special wiring needed?

For the DCC experts

Hi DCC friends,

I have a question for the DCC experts.

I am building a hidden staging section which consists of two tracks. I'm thinking that if I have a DPDT switch on each of the turnouts (SW1 and SW2) it may be possible to isolate a small section of one rail which would effectively stop Loco1 on one track.

(I did these drawings on AutoCad so the dead lines show as black):

Putting Sound in Bachmann Vanderbilt (Vandy) Tenders

I have a number of Bachmann Vandy tenders that I wish to put sound (and decoders) into. In particular I am looking at the VC16 and VC12 tenders at the moment.

First the VC16 tenders. I want to build at least 3 different versions for experimentation purposes:
1) Mount a Railmaster bass-reflex speaker (already enclosed in its own 'box') on the bottom frame firing out the bottom of the tender.

Can your sound decoder replicate this? (EMD 645-16, SD40-2 Rev up/dn)

I was describing to somebody a sequence of sound that I wish the RailPro decoder could do and they said, "Can other decoders do what you are describing?"

I suspect the answer is yes, but since I have no experience with other systems, I am looking to you to provide some examples...

This video by (railjames on youtube) shows what we want to replicate:

Favorite DCC sound decoder(s)/settings for geared logging locos

I'm making decisions and assembling the necessary materials to add DCC sound to some of my HO geared logging locomotives (shays, climax, heisler).  As much as I would love to use TCS WOW decoders they apparently do not support shay (not sure about climax and heisler) chuff rates without resorting to cams.  There is also no support for rod clank and other drive train sounds.

hare trigger

Hi everyone

Kind of a  simple question that I  have. How far can you make the  two gaps in  the rail  for the trigger and throw rails from the switch that will have the Hare?

Also does it matter if the gaps are on the other side of a second switch wth a regular tortoise on the same rail as the switch that has the Hare,  I guess what I'm saying is can I  cut  the gaps in the rails for the trigger rails any  where I wish?

Thanks

Help with Steam Loco Sound Installation

Can somebody tell me what I did wrong with this loco wiring?  I am installing a Soundtraxx 1000 DSD decoder in an old Balboa brass Southern Pacific Consolidation.  The decoder is in the tender and I have 6 wires running from the decoder to the loco.  They are as follows from left side of cab to right side of cab as you are looking at the back of the loco:

Right Rail Pickup (Red)

Motor Plus (Orange)

Function Plus (Blue)

Forward Headlight (White)

Motor Minus (Gray)

Firebox Light (Green)

RailPro Sound and Speaker Comparison (incl. DSM-8 vs iPhone 4 speaker)

This post is a follow-up to my previous post: What speaker for a stock Kato SD40-2 ?

I have purchased a number of speakers and said I would post some sound samples.

Here they are!

Could a DCS200 be made safe for N scale?

Would it be safe to use a DCS200 as a booster on an N scale layout? We will have a fresh battery in all boosters and will be protected with either PM42 or PSx breakers. I was worried the 8 amps would cause problems, but would the circuit breakers set at 4.5 amps make the 8 amps safe for our scale? So far it looks like we will have 5 booster districts and the command station will be stand alone. There will be two DCS200's in the mix.

Thanks
