DIGITRAX..HUM, DID I MAKE A MISTAKE????

hello every one,
i recently converted from an MRC prodigy advanced system ( the reason i
changed is because MRC's tech department is terrible..very rude) but the system
ran fine,i had some small issues with the throttles .so over the past 2 weeks i have
spent in access of $500.00 to upgrade to the Digitrax DCS100 w/ DT400 & UP5 i was having
problems programming locos ( posted on here about a week ago) so i purchased the PR3,2 PS14"s & a UR90.

been a while since I played with DCC, need to make sure I'm doing it right...

Hi everyone-

I've been working on a basement sized layout for the past zillion years. See attached jpgs. The basement is roughly 40 x 25, so the layout takes up roughly 700s.f. It's been a long while since I played with DCC, so I'm re-reading books and visiting the Digitrax website to refresh my memory. I'd love for some feedback on what I'm doing.

Speakers in early Athern Diesels

I have a number of older Athearn diesel locos that I have fitted with DCC. I now want to equip some with a generic type sound unit and don't know too much about the sound side of things. Looking at the manufacturer's data it seems to me that most suitable units come with an un-baffled  28mm speaker. I'm fairly certain I will have trouble getting a 28mm speaker in my locos especially if I need to make a baffle for it and it looks like I may need to buy a replacement speaker at the same time.

DCC wiring question...

I heard that the Bus line wire should be 18 gauge. That's like lamp cord wire. Is that right?

Rethinking Consist Power Balancing

So last night on my way to work I got to thinking about how some manufacturers use two-way decoders to achieve near perfect power balancing between consisted units.  it really is a work of art to see the engines working together on video.

But then I got to thinking: what if all of my units are not equipped with two-way decoders, yet one of them has Advanced consist power balancing.  Does that power balancing HAVE to rely on a "two-way decoder in every locomotive" device?

Wireless Wings for DCC Throttles

So this may be a zany Idea - indeed, it probably very well is!  But bear with me for a moment, there may be something here afoot!

I drew it all up in this simple diagram.  One diagram spares a 1000 words - wheeh!!

Switch Problem

I have an electrical problem for which I need some advice. The facts are as follows:

Stationary sound via hi-fi system

Hi all,

I have looked at equipping some of my engines with sound and have more then a few concerns, listed below:

1/ Cost, the conversion from a Digitrax decoder to a sound decoder either Digitrax or MRC will add about £50 per unit.
2/ Difficulty of the install in N scale, fiddly, accident prone...
3/ And mostly, sound quality is really poor, tinny thin unrealistic sound which is more distracting and annoying then a good upgrade.

So reading around I came across the following idea and I am interested in opinions.

Decoder Installation in N scale

Does any of the advertisers here install decoders on N scale engines ? I have an Atlas GP40 that I would like to convert it into DCC. Any one recommends anybody ??

Thanks in advance
