About 80% of my engines run on DC. (hence the large amount of DC districts)  The last 20% are fully DCC with some sound.

Need advice on sound.

Ok guys, looking to buy my first sound decoder and I don't want to sink a ton of money into this for a "trial" run.

There seems to be quite a few sound decoders available for the $40-$60 range.

MRC and Digitrax comes to mind.

Both offer what I want.

My question is, have any of you installed one of these decoders and what are the pro's and con's of them.

(Decoder models Digitrax SDN164 and MRC 1716)

Wiring a 3 Way Wye in DCC

I would like to install a 3 way wye on my layout, but how to wire it has got me stumped.  I am using a Walthers/Shinohara insulated frog wye 948-8808 and I plan to use a PSx-AR auto reversing module.  I have read Joe Fugate's piece on wiring a wye in the July 2011 MRH on page 18.  Joe's piece makes it clear how to wire a 2 branch wye, but I'm having difficulty figuring how to wire the 3 branch wye.  As Joe has recommended, I will connect the leads from the reversing module to the stub end of the wye, and I assume that all three of the branches must be isol

DIY DCC, Where and how should I post an article

I am making my own DCC decoders, see this: DCC interior lights, they are with onboard decoder.

Nothing fancy, just ordinary on/off, but after posting there was feedback asking me to do an article.

Now the question is, how should I do it, I am not sure that the nice people from MRH are interested in crossing the pond just to look at some decoders, although I would be honoured if they would.
