Lehigh & Hudson River RR flanger

Hello,

Another project I worked on and is now complete..........an old Ambroid wood kit for a Lehigh & Hudson River RR flanger.

Follow along as I build this kit from start to finish.

Sci-Fi Locomotive Kitbash

Sci-Fi model train

I've completed my first locomotive kitbash of a science fiction fantasy engine meant to be used on my Mines of Xenon layout in HO scale. The base unit started out with an E60 shell and was chopped down to fit on an Atlas SD45 chassis. Bits and pieces were added to protect the humans from the mining robots rising up in revolution.

Repaint #325 Fundraiser

A bit off topic but the Minnesota Transportation Museum is looking for help to repaint its SDP40 back to Great Northern Big Sky Blue this year. This is one of the only SDP40s left in existence, it was the last working passenger locomotive on a Class I railroad, and any help in preserving this unit would be appreciated!

Here's to hoping that Athearn releases an SDP40 someday to follow up on their excellent SDP45s as well.

I have three K-27's from Sunset models in HOn3.

All out of gauge... They couldn't clear a turnout without derailing.

I've regauged them to NMRA specs.

This (and the other) locomotive has a long list of work done to make it work.

Cricut experiment.. making detail parts.

With all the cool stuff that I have seen using the cricut machine, An idea hit me. Why not try to make detail parts. I have an old Athearn bluebox caboose that has those old end rails, so I thought about making the end rails closer to what is on the more modern cars. I started by scanning the end railing off a Walthers International caboose. Then using  paint.net I modified the image to fit the Athearn car. Then using Inkscape I saved the file in the svg format needed by Cricut.

Making Covers for your Hoppers

I have a handful of hoppers that need covers to suit the needs of my layout as they will be delivering grain and hops to a brewery. I didnt want to use boxcars for this. Does anyone sell just the covers that I can paint to match? If not anyone made covers from scratch and willing to post a tutorial?

"How much sound"? in a specific DCC consist?

Hi all,

While working on my new layout i will slowly be adding DCC to several DC locomotives on my fleet. I am having some thoughts and questions with respect to "how much sound" should i have in a particular consist.

The thoughts:

The consist will be having Genesis F units' for passenger service in ABBBA and AABBA setups.

The middle B unit on the first consist is going to be a dummy unit in the ABBBA consist.

I am thinking of having Sound decoders on the A units, motor only on the B units.

More of the Same, But Different

More of the Same, But Different

Time to assign some power to an early 60’s Southern Pacific passenger train. One loco will be a Life Like era Proto 2000 E8 in Black Widow. As on the UP e-units, the Kato motor transplant, drive line upgrades, truck tuning, LED lights, and Tsunami 2 are the same. The choice of speakers and mounting are different. More follows

HO Gondolas

What HO gondolas are available that would be correct for a late 70s-early 80s time period. I believe alot of the Thrall gondolas available were based on mid 1990s models.

Plausible late 1960s Steam Tourist train?

Hi all,

I am thinking about making up a fictional yet plausible steam excursion / tourist train for my layout. Pasadena subdvision, California 1968-1970. I have some thoughts about this that i wanted to double check and get your opinions/feedback.

I know about the 3751 4-8-4 being the present time choice for such a train.
