Benchwork - Roadbed

The helix instructions by ART HOUSTON

Down the right hand side under the heading, "RECENT BLOG POSTS", is a post by "GEORGE" in regards to, "The helix instructions by Art Houston". I have tried several times to access this information in the past 1/2 hour or so but NO INFO comes up. I have had no problem accessing any of these Blogs in the past or today.

Is there a problem with this link?

Let me know what you think. We have been working on it two days, and the helix is almost ready to go up.

Barry Oz Railway Frame design and construction

After considerable thought I decided on an around the wall with an island design, as can be seen in pictures the bench near the window is 100 cm 39.5" x 60 cm 24" , on back wall insert 1 50 cm 19.75" x 50 cm 19.75", the centre island is 150 cm 50.125" x 60 cm 24", insert 2 50 cm 19.75" x 50 cm 19.75", bench along west wall is 190.5 cm 75" x 450 cm 17.75" and stands 130 cm 51.125" high. All materials were on hand from previous projects. Cross supports were cut to size and drilled to allow wiring.

Barry Oz Railway

Brief History.

As a child I did not have a model railway or any hobbies due to circumstances beyond my control. Yet the sight of model railways made me curious and fascinated.

Trapezoid Helix design

I am planning to build a helix to expand my staging capabilities and am looking for a specific method of cutting the bench work. The design consists of sections of trapezoids that when butted together they make a circle. These sections are made by cutting a strip of plywood to the specified width and then cutting them to lengths at specific angles, By butting the sections a circle is created. With out CAD I am having difficulty in getting the exact measurements of the perimeter of the sections.

How would you do modular?

After going to Trainfest and seeing what can be done with modular style construction, I decided that since I didn't have a track plan yet, I could start with a couple of modules to see what I am capable of.  One of the groups at the show had a layout that is both NMRA and Free-mo compliant (so to speak).  They have either Free-mo ends or NMRA ends and have transition sections to get from one to the other.  The group is Northwest Trainmasters for those who are curious and want to know more.

Question for anybody who uses lauan roadbed

If you've used lauan for roadbed (not subroadbed), how did you bevel it?  Router?  Hand sander?  Or did you not bevel it at all?  Just curious.
