Upper Valance - Part I

Well, it isn't sexy and it sure isn't fine modeling but hey, first things first. My upper fascia installation progress thus far. With a little drywall mud, a coat of paint, and some suspended ceiling tiles in place I think it is going to work out swell. Amazing how rigid 1/8" hardboard can become when formed into curves and screwed in place.

Neophite Modeler Needs all the help he can get!!!

NeophiteFirst off, greetings to all from me, Bruce Bennett. I'm a rather new member to the forum and train modeling as well. I'm back into modeling after a 40+ year hiatus.  DCC brought me back!  Anyway, I've got a rather large 4 car garage of which I'm only using half of. The unused half was used for storage of a 38' class B motorhome. Since the motorhome is gone I now have approximately  300 square feet with a 15' tall ceiling.  I've included a .jpg drawing of the garage (not to scale) to give you an idea what I have to work with.

Valance Positioning

I started this new thread to keep Rob's backdrop thread from being further hijacked by my valance questions.

Joe, looking at your images and reading the text... Valence bottom edge height I get the feeling the "windows" to your layout are somewhere between 7" and 12", correct? Your upper valance bottom edge distance from floor is less than your personal height, correct?

JL&T Railroad Blog - Lift Out Bridge Construction...

Hi All,

Well yesterday I started construction of the swing bridge that will connect the north & south top deck sections.  The gap in between both sections is 800mm (31.5") the angle that the swing bridge takes is around 45 degress.  The width of the bridge itself was going to be 200mm (8") but I have extended it out to 300mm (12"/1') as it will give me more flexibility with locating the truss bridge that will span across part of the bridge.

Let there be light... or not

I am planning ahead for when I get to the lighting installation point for my double deck layout. It seems I have encountered a conundrum. A 15A circuit was pulled for the layout lighting during the basement finishing. Doing the math now it seems that will not be sufficient. Local code states a lighting circuit can be loaded to 80% of capacity. That effectively makes my 15A circuit a 12A circuit.

Construction Begins

For the first time in my life I have said "Hooray, summer is over". My wife knows me all too well. I was all ready to start construction of the LK&O this past spring when she said "I know once you start building that train layout I won't be able to get you to do anything else. Can you wait until after summer is over to start?" Yes dear.

Well Labor Day has come and gone so here I go.....

The Train Room aka The Mother in law room.

The Train Room aka The mother in law room.  This room is 11.5' x 19.5' built on the back patio of the house.  The owner before me used it as an art studio.  I used it for storage at the time of the photos.  The room has no climate control and 2 doors with 2 types of windows on the East (Glass Door Sliding Door) and West (Normal Door) walls.  The north wall (Finished at this time) is a 2x4 stud wall with the back yard on the other side.  The south wall is the the house (Cinder Block wall).  You can see the slope in the ceiling fr
