The Monday Night Mail Train 9-13

After missing August the Kanunda and Emu Flat Railway hosted an operating session for six operators on the ninth of September 2013. Every one enjoyed the session and the rains ran well. Here are a few photos and for more information please read the attached news letter while you can.

Slow speed N scale switching

I've just started my new layout project; the Alexander Railroad in N-scale. The first N-scale locomotive I've bought for this layout is a Bachmann Spectrum GE 44-tonner. Sadly the performance of the loco was well under my expectations. At slow "cruising speeds" the speed of the loco varies a lot even though I don't touch the throttle.

I've tried the loco both on DCC and DC with the same result. Does anyone have any idea what causes this or have any similar experiences with this model?

Ontario South Central Railway

Hello, my name is Brad Ketchen. I am a musician, music engineer, sound editor and composer living in the Greater Toronto area. I say the GTA as my Girlfriend and I are moving to a condo in Toronto. This creates a dilemma, as I figure out the future of my railroad, Ontario South Central Railway and accomodating it in our new living space. Luckily, my girlfriend understands the need for a room to relocate the OSCR as well as my current location of the railroad on the adjacent wall to my recording work station.

Simulating brake test

Hi all,

How long would you model testing brakes and walking a train about 15/20 cars long?

thanks

On schedule and as promised to myself, the Greater Nickel Plate rode the High Iron today. Not a production video but thanks to my wife, Peggy, and her patience with me the railroad lives! Now to fine tune the track, cars and engines so that everything runs smoothly.

Making up a train - prototype

Thanks to Chuck Davis who sent me this link: It explains and depicts the operational moves of building a freight train. Very cool.

DCC _Engineer_ system, feedback required...

Dear MRHers,

OK, here's a straight up comparison question for the brains trust:

Your thoughts on:

- NCE Cab04P + SB5

VS

- Digitrax UT4 + DB150

???

Have a great time learning about how TT&TO's can add to the fun of operating your model railroad.
