Ideas for small switching layout? (Decided on design I think)

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.

Uncoupling inside a building

I model HO scale, Kadee couplers with the trip pin removed from the Kadee. A skewer is used for uncoupling.

As I'm progressing on the layout and thinking of buildings, how do I uncouple a car once the car is in the building? Do I need to position the coupler a specific way first? Then push the car in and pull back, leaving the car in place? Thanks.

Video of Steam Pusher Operations on the CPR's Coquihalla Subdivision

At this weekend's Vancouver Train Exposition, modelers were treated to a "Virtual Layout Tour" of four local layouts.  Sitting in the grandstands of the Forum on the Pacific National Exhibition fair grounds, an estimated 40 to 50 attendees grabbed bags of popcorn, kicked back with their friends, and watched videos recently shot on these 4 layouts all projected in high resolution onto a large screen.

Using sound to slow you down...

I don't often post here but I thought this might be worthwhile for some folks who are considering what to do about sound.

I currently have a small L shaped N scale switching layout, representating interchange with the main in Davis, CA from where a number of cars are being switched to industries in Woodland CA, on the West Valley sub (ols SP, now CFNR).

Updated JMRI/Panel Pro - Panel...

So as part of the consolidation work on the the block wiring I needed to redesign the JMRI Panel Pro - Panel.  The existing layout panel was fairly cluttered and wasn't really going to work well.

While I was involved in the action, little to no pictures were taken. But we gathered some anyway.

Train MA-5 picked up some cars and is leaving Elizabeth Oaks heading east to Cleveland,OH (Staging). Local (mid left) waits for clear tracks to resume its switching job.
