Notching and percent of applied power
My locomotives are controlled at present by a Digitrax Zephyr Express. When the throttle is advanced it indicates a percentage of power applied via its 2.4" LCD screen. It's a straight rheostat type run from 0 - 100% that must depend on the decoder for power regulation to simulate notching if I get the CVs tweaked right.
Here is a great link discussing prototype throttle notching:
A customer has ordered a car, now what??
Continuation of the thread I started regarding building jobs around customers needs. In this part I will be talking about once a car is ordered how does the crew know where to actually spot it.
Not every customer served everyday
Switching the Mill
This was way funnier the first time I wrote it. But for some reason after I checked the preview and it asked me if I wanted to use a previously saved version, it erased everything I did...
So I'll just have to let the pictures do the talking...

Fun with a shelf?
I have come across some absolutely amazing looking small shelf layouts. The detail is top notch, design is great.....
Then I start to wonder, for those who actually own and operate these small shelf layouts how enjoyable they are, and how long the fun lasts? To me and only my personality it seems they will get stale fast?
So for those with them, how does the fun hold up?
Loop served industries
Are modern loop served industries like coal mines or especially grain elevators where an entire train is loaded or unloaded with the cars rolling under a spot at slow speed worth modeling for their operating potential?
Different days different work, thoughts on rail served customers
One thing I have noticed about some model railroad operations is that jobs are expected to switch every customer every session. I was recently going back through some old information from my Trainmaster and AGM days on a few railroads. One of the things I was placed in charge of was creating job duty and customer switching plans. My decisions were based on a number of factors, so if you are interested in how some schedules are made keep reading.
Updates to my website
I have added some new documents that are selected transcriptions of rule books in Word Doc format.
