Modeling topic

Decisions decisions decisions

Folks, I need your opinions. I am modeling a lot of new freight cars for my layout and presentation in my Limited Modeler column in RD. I am trying what compromised to make or not to make. Here is an example. Boxcar ends.

I want to work with the Accurail 40-foot USRA double sheathed boxcar. The ends of the model look like this (top) boxcar but this prototype is about a foot taller than what the Accurail model represents.

A so easy to use paint which cost nothing...

I have already mentionned the use of cheap craft acrilyc paint to paint our models.

This is important for you because of the demise of Floquil and Polly scale.

Sure I don't ask to open again the debate, but I beleive many are looking too far to find a good color and pay too much for it.

I discover a few months ago the fabulous work of Jason Jensen; he use only CHEAP ACRILYCS CRAFT PAINT for his modeling paint work.

Diary of the mad modeler

Let's go back in time shall we the year was 2002 at the Montgomery Alabama Union station are young model railroader who was attending a juvenile diabetes fundraiser didn't really care about the food or the games or his friends being there he was infatuated with 5 military trains within 6 hours going south more than likely heading to Iraq. Now it's fast forward to 2018. Sitting around at a milsim event. "airsoft war games".

HObbyline Ho trains of the 1950's

This thread is about HObbyline Ho trains and sets from between 1953 to 1957, the years HObbyline was in the retail business. My collection of these trains, which are only Cataloged trains, is just about completed. I have no idea why it opens on page 2 and not the newest post. I can't change it so i live with it. The text and Photo's are displayed very nicely here. This is a good place for sharing information.

If you like this line of trains or see something you think wrong, please tell me.

Jersey Central and Reading Company Diesel Decals

Folks, is anyone aware of who produces CNJ diesel decals and Reading cab units? Microscale has CNJ diesel decals but their sets lack the “Jersey Central Lines”  as spelled out on cab unit B units. As regards Reading cab units I can’t locate anything available.

Freight and passenger cars are fairly well supplied from several sources and that’s no problem.

Thank you for any advice.

Upper fascia?

As the bench work progresses I found myself thinking too much.  When I stand at normal operating distance this is what I see:

Prototypical trailers for local routes? (HO)

Hi all,

I looking for suitable trailers to be used for transporting goods between a team track and local industries, late 60s era. I got a Mack H67 so far as tractor for this, and i am looking at the Walthers 35' fluted trailer and the Classic Metal Works 32' Aero-Van to combine with the said tractor. Would any of these be prototypical for the usage i am thinking? I got up to the point that i should stay below 40' trailer length given my era and local routes.

EMD 48" Radiator Fan Drawings/Pictures

Reminder: The following discusses 1/29
..

I'm in the process of super detailing a USA Trains GP30. Well, not very fast as I've now been working on and off for over 5 years. Now that I'm back trying to push this off the work bench, I'm trying to find more prototype information.

Shot in the dark. I need some detail photos or drawings of EMD of 48" fans, particularly the flared fans so I can replace the factory crap ones.

Worse case, I can use Cannon & Co fans, but would rather start with drawings or decent photos to create a CAD model for 3D printing.
