Prussian/German trains in 1860
I got a request from my son wanting information about Prussian/German trains in 1860 to talk about them in his European history class at college/university.
I have not done any research yet myself, but I was thinking that instead of just googling I would ask here for recommended resource, hoping someone who has researched the subject could point me to a good link or two to read.
Thanks in advance,
British Prototype Trains and Layouts Have Appeal
Recently, I’ve been looking at British prototypes for modeling in a small space. Having only known American style trains, I had always thought the British and European prototypes looked rather strange. However, It seems to me that British profile model trains and layouts have several things in their favor. First is smaller equipment, like mainline 0-6-0’s and smaller rolling stock, for both freight (goods), and passenger.
C&O manual turnout throws: Proto manuf and HO sources?
Dear MRHers,
Quick questions, as my Google-fu is failing me right now...
1- What Manual ground throw was the C&Os weapon-of-choice circa 1950s?
(Greenbrier sub, if that helps)
2- Are we talking high-level lanterns and direction indicators, or just low-level "flip over" handles?
3- Any known/preferred HO sources or options?
From some searching, Century Foundry and Details-West has come up empty,
I'm loathe to buy complete CI throws just for the lanterns and direction-indicators,
(the model turnouts are already Tortoise-powered, this is a visual-only addition),
Nice video of a Belgian modules with working animations
Moderator note: When possible, MRH prefers that videos be embedded.
This is a small video of a contest winning modules in HO scale of an European model made by a well know belgian modeler.
The end of the beginning.
I should say this is the end of the beginning - part 1, as I'm approaching my layout build by sectional builds (similar to TOMA). You can reference the track plan belowt, I am tackling the top section first which is just over 14 feet x 2 feet. The "benchwork" is in, mounted with 2 sheets of 2 inch foam, backdrop is in place and track is weathered and wired up.
Fresh White Glue when Applying Static Grass?
I’m at the Amherst/Springfield show. I was discussing the best technique for applying static grass and a vendor said always use fresh white glue. In all my years of modeling I have never heard this before.
I would be interested any comments on this subject.

What questions to ask a former feed mill manager?
One of my modeling projects is a model of TD Feeds in Redmond, WA. It was torn down in 2000-2001 time frame. About 10 years ago, I managed to get a email address from the Redmond Historical Society of a former manager of the operation. We emailed back and forth for about a year. He sent me,photos and information. I saved the photos, but one day I lost my entire email account (school shut it down because I was no longer a student). I lost everything.
need some options for securing layout setup/plywood
ok so about a year ago i built a small n-scale layout on a 2x4 sheet of mdf that i got from home-depot it was in the 12$ bin lol. anyhow i live in a small 370 square foot studio apartment and right now the layout sits in the middle of my apartment on top of my cheap 100$ walmart dresser
aside from screwing the plywood into the top of the dresser what other options do i have to secure the layout or at least prevent it from sliding around so easily if i happen to bump into it?
