A Look At How Far I've Come

Well I've been a member here now for exactly 2 years and 2 weeks (wow time flies!) and thought I'd take a look at how far I've really come. Just one year prior even I had no idea what DCC was and let alone how to build a kit. Now looking at things I have done and learned this list of things:

- Building a Laser Cut Wood Kit

- Building a Basic Kit

- Building a Tichy Kit

- Laying Scenery

- Ballasting Track

- Laying Sectional Track

- Laying Flex Track (As of 2/3)

What do you think about this chain?

What do you, the MRH community, think of this chain I am evaluating as a possible product?

On the top is Builders In Scale #250 40LPI chain
On the bottom is a much lighter chain I have been able to source.

Here are both chains shown on a model:

Scratch Building the Great Western Sugar Silos

The silos are a major landmark for the Loveland Great Western beet factory as well as Loveland itself.  They are huge – 200’ tall with eight 40’ diameter storage silos.  The machinery tower on top of each silo quad proudly proclaims “GW”.  Great Western sugar is gone and the factory mostly torn down but the silos still stand and are still used to store sugar from other factories.  This is a photo from 1985 just after the plant was closed.

My first module - Laying the track

Next it is time to lay my first piece of track.

Track on bridge

First I carefully ran a fine bead of Barge Cement along the track ties on the bridge and the underside of the rails, then I had to wait 20 minutes for it to dry.

It started me thinking.

Vendor Suggestion for Scratch Building Structure Components

Planning to scratch build a large food processing plant, (roughly 4ft by 2 ft footprint), and have looked at DPM's building module products.

Based on the size, going with DPM could get a little pricey.  Looking for suggestions on other recommended vendors who sale building components such as walls, windows, cargo doors, etc...

"Skipjack", a TT scale PRR Delmarva layout.

This is about a small TT scale layout in a spare bedroom. The space is my in house work shop as well as hosting O scale and N scale layouts over the years. This is just a continuation of a modeler's wandering thru the hobby's many facets. The recent N layout was fun to operate but I decided a simpler track plan and concept would suit my interests  better.
