My first module - Installing the bridge
Now it's time to install the bridge.
Here is my Exactrail 50' girder bridge weathered lightly with AIM Products powders finally glued in place. I also added more weathering to the abutments.
Consolidated Stencil
When did the Consolidated Stencil start showing up? I always thought it was 1974, but I have seen at least one source say it was 1970.
3D printing to resin casting: idea for a long-term project
I lived outside of D.C. briefly, and since then, I've thought it would be fun to try to scratchbuild an HO scale set of Washington Metro's 1000-series railcars. I'd given it a try way back then using styrene and wasn't happy with the results. (I also had never built anything with styrene before. I still haven't built much with styrene!) I'd posted on either the AMR lines or Freerails forum at the time.
The Model and the Prototype
My local NMRA div held its September meet in Brockville, so of course I had to take the transfer terminal out for one last show & tell before it got bolted permanently to the layout, and then took it down to visit the real building.
Me, in shot from the west end:
Hmmm...some HVAC equipment on the roof would look good....

I keep reading about P2k when talking up grades, It's greek to me . What is P2k referring to ? Thanks Zeke

Thanks to Arizona Rock and Mineral my model railroad dream will become a reality. I am doing a product review on their ballast and ground cover which will be featured on my 2'x5' switching layout. Construction will begin Monday and I can't believe it is really happening!!!
The plan:
Laser question
I know that if I take an image I have scanned in as a .BMP and send it to my laser through a paint program or even imported into my cad program all I can do is raster burn the image. There is no vector data that can be used. Is there a way that vector data can be extracted from or converted from a .BMP type drawing?
say I scanned in a scratch build drawing posted in Model Railroader magazine. How can I get the vector data needed to cut the material to make the structure?
My first module - Painting castings - The fun begins
This is a reminder of where I am heading towards.
Now that the plaster castings are in place I could start painting, the fun part.
Are Metal Wheelsets Worth it?
I have rolling stock mainly consisting of older tyco and some trainset quality life-like cars that I am using for my switching layout. They all not have body mounted Kadees and the question remains should I convert them to Metal Wheelsets? I have 18 cars being used on the "layout" and was curious what is the cheapest/most economic way to get enough for them all? I as many of you know have an extremely small budget so whatever help you can give would be appreciated!
