Testor's Dullcote

What is recommended for a flat spray other than Testor's Dullcote? I bought some Matte finish spray from another well-known craft supplies manufacturer but then read somewhere that their Matte finish wasn't really the same as Dullcote's flat clear. Any thoughts on the matter?

Model Railroads & Structures Show Ep2

In this episode I talk about what's in a Craftsman kit and why the cost is worth the lessons learned. Sven shares his first attempts at Boxcar weathering. He did a pretty good job in my opinion.

Model Railroads & Structures Show Ep1

Another web-show hits the streets with your favorite misfit as the Host. Come and see why the stiffs are getting up and stretching their disapproving fingers. MR&S show is the talk show that talks about what is up in the community and shares clinics and demonstrations, in each show. We interview unique and unknown modelers of all genres, not because we can't get the best, but because we heard it all before.

The Model Railroads and Structures show isn't for everyone, and that's cool with us...

Source for typography and railroad era info?

Anyone know of a dedicated railroad source with simple information about fonts and the approximate time they were released.  I'm trying to get together info for a proposal to a decal guy here of decals I'd like to have for my steam locos.  Engine numbers would be simple single digits like #1 , #2, #3  and railroad name would be on tenders. The line is circa 1930 to 1940 at the latest. There are so many font choices available today, I'd like to make sure I'd be using one available in that era.

A topic of length

This cropped up in the Overweighting topic under Locos and Rollingstock: The subject of train length and scaling down trains to represent trains longer than they are. a 25car train for example representing a 50 car protoype counterpart. The reason for doing, is to fit within the scenes of our layout, as well as the layout's physical capacity. Not many layouts, even clubs have the siding capacity for fifty-100 car trains, (watch, tweleve of you are gonna prove me wrong.

Great Northern 12 panel Intermountain boxcar

Does anyone know if the Intermountain HO scale Great Northern 12 panel 40' boxcar is modeled as the 10'-0" or 10'-6" interior height car?

Thanks.

paint question

I live in a rural area, the nearest hobby shop is a Michaels 30 miles away. I get paint when I go to California to visit family. I have a turntable pit to paint, what acrylic paint would you use for concrete?

Diner from the past: a reference to the old days of toy trains

In this project, we see a firmilliar sight: one of the tinplate cars intended for my friend. This car is beyond an affordable restoration considering its a gift, so after a idea popped into my head I asked if he minded my doing something else with the carbody than restoring it to rolling condition. After getting the OK, I did more thinking. Here's the plan. We're all firmilliar with the idea of old train cars being used as diners right? But they're always older cars than the current era as would make sense.
