Livery on custom locos and rolling stock
Good day everyone,
I am looking at possibly doing some custom locomotives and rolling stock for a fictitious railroad / company. The painting should be ok - I have an airbrush, I just need to practice a bit. I am however concerned about the livery. The locos and rolling stock that one buys, seem to have the livery (names, logos, etc) painted on, which does not give you that "edging" (for the lack of a better word) that decals does. It just looks much sharper.
Scratch building your own detail parts
Scratchbuilding your own detail parts
The purpose of this blog is to share some of the techniques I've found over the years for making my own detail parts. All techniques shown here are my inventions unless otherwise noted, if I show something someone else uses, it is coincidence. With that done, let the magnifying glass lower.

Transfer Terminal Kitbash: Almost Done
It's always a good feeling when the "To Do" list starts to accumulate a lot of checkmarks.
Here's an interior view of the building. I put in just enough internal detail to look interesting through the open doorways. The optic fiber bundle is glued into a white LED located in the office area, and feeds through holes to illuminate the external light fixtures -- looks rather pretty in the dark.
Mounting the long central beam such that it didn't interfere with the roof support structure took a bit of figuring and fitting and fiddling.
Six part Southern Pacific Articles
New MRH member. I am specifically interested in the Southern Pacific articles in six parts. I would like to know which back issues have the first two parts.

Module Challenge
I have been absorbed with the idea of creating a tall steel trestle similar to one very near my home. While the original was straight and designed for a standard guage line, mine will be 30" guage (1:48) and on a curve. Here is the inspiration that came from a panoramic shot:

Looking for help with a local school club
I am looking for people in the Lomabrd Illinois area (could be companies hobbyshops volunteers etc.) that could help sponsor and build a layout for a model railroad club that may begin next school year I have not gone to the principal about it but last year he said it could be possible if I can find a teacher to do it. If you can help please put it in the comments or PM thanks.
Interesting picture I took in the Smokies......
My family and I visited the great Smoky Mountains this past few days and I always take pictures when I go. This trip coincided with my daughters spring break from school which came kind of early this year. It's interesting to me to see all the barren deciduous trees here with just smatterings of green provided by what I assume are conifer/evergreens . Won't be long till this scene is the "sea of green" that so many try to emulate with puffballs.
