Arduino Speedometer for less than $15

Hi all!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speedometer:
The idea was to be familiar with the game and start KISS. So, before decide where to place in the Layout, I plan for a "portable" one ( so it can be used also on a modular layout during meetings ?)

The Micro used is the little and cheap Nano, more than enough for this simple application:

Back and Forth Auto Controls for Train Display Need Ideas

I need to set up a display of straight track about 16' long. The trains need to run back and forth automatically.

For several hours a day. Does anyone have any recommendations of what to buy to set this up?

Layout Lighting

In your recent copy, you had a notice about lighting for your layout.

The Modeler , after doing some searching , found LED strip lighting. Inexpensive, and easy to install

A friend of mine has been using a brand that has been coming out of Chins, and has ( I believe ) 4 colors.

Red , White, Blue, and Yellow. It also comes with a control pad the you can chose which color you want, and

you can also dim the light.

this gives you the opportunity to go from daylight to sunset to evening.

Modifying a 12V LED strip to operate on 5V for use with Gold-caps (Super capacitors) for coach lighting

Back in June I wrote an article on Flicker free LED's for under $2 for coach lighting.

The drawback with operating on 12V is you cannot use the 5.5VDC rated Gold-caps (Super capacitors) but need to use larger electrolytics for flicker free operation. Also the commercially available LED tape needs a minimum of 7.8V to even light up the LED.

Well the price of 5M LED tape is still compellingly cheap on eBay, than buying 5V LED tape at some crazy price. A little modification and patience lends into a very useful idea, achievable in 15-20 min.

G Scale Control for around the wall with built in auto start/stop

I have a compatriot who has built an around the wall G scale shelf of a business.  He wants to be able to control the train remotely and have it start stop at various places on demand.

Any recommendation on a SIMPLE control system to do that?

Opposites attract?

Can I ask the inevitable stupid question?

I have two Bachmann a and b diesel units and when I put them on a track with DC power, whatever I do they go in the opposite direction to one another, turn them around and its the same thing. Change the power to the other direction, same thing. What did I do wrong? I did have them apart thinking that I might convert them to DCC but decided against that (but, I didn't mess with the wiring).

electronic simulation software

Is there any software for simulating electronic projects before building? I've seen some that would be useful for logic and digital circuits but what I seek is something I could put in a schematic to see if it works. Like if I did a circuit for example of cross buck flashers and entered the schematic. Added simulated power supply would the LEDs on my schematic blink?
