Need Some Help - LED Indicator Panel - Mission Accomplished -Thanks

17 August Update:  Thanks to everyone that helped point me in the right direction.  The panels now work the way that I had intended.  I deleted the 150 ohm resistor and added a 1.5K ohm 1/2 watt resistor on the positive leg going to each LED.  Everything works now.  The video below shows the finished product. Thanks again.

RailPro turn outs

Hi guys,

I intend to run my new layout using Ring Eng RailPro system which I have just purchased. Since I had no DCC "anything" I decided this was best for me.

My question is:

I would like to use the Proto87 easy turnout kits as I will need over 40 for my layout. But it seems to me that with RailPro being a DC system that insulfrogs are the way to go. That way I do not have to worry about powering the frog in any form or fashion... EVER!

Kynar Wire

This product may be old news to some, but I came across Kynar wire a short while ago and figured that it may have considerable potential for model railroading.  The stuff I have is 30 AWG  and as you can see from the photo it sits neatly between the 38 AWG magnet wire from Ngineeering and decoder wire.

To me the advantage over magnet wire is that it has very good insulation while still very thin and relatively flexible. Anyhoo thought I would share another tool in the arsenal for those tricky wiring jobs.

12v 5 pin latching relay for led point indication

Hi all,
I have hit a wall trying to figure out what to do. I am using twin solenoid surface mounted point motors, wired up to the control panel location, and also have SPDT momentary on-off-on toggles ready to flip my points. But I want a red/green led to indicate which way the point is thrown. I believe a latchjng relay is used to make sure power continues to the led after the toggle itself bounces back to off. I have a 5 pin relay, I have the toggles, I even have the points wired up to the panel, and I think I will need twin color led.

mower supply

needing info as to weather or not i can hookup a bachmann power supply that is not on track freed but is on the full power by putting a resister inline off the the power supply not on the main track.

Joe Fugates article on DCC vs. RailPro

I enjoyed Joe's article on pg 157 in the July issue.  I have use DC since the 60's for my HO trains.  Many of our club members in Charlotte have DCC on their layouts.  I have tried several and observed them to be somewhat complicated, cumbersome to operate and therefore chose not to switch to DCC.  But after reviewing the RailPro website on MRHM three years ago, I called and talked with the Rail Pro people and a hobby store operator who sold RailPro.

6 pin toggle instead of 3 pin

Good evening,
Can anyone tell me if I can use a 6 pin on-off-on toggle switch for my points control panel instead of the 3 pin?
Thanks in advance,
Pranav

Hornby surface mounted pt motor & 6-pin as 3-pin questions

Good evening,
First of all, sorry for the long post title. I thought it would be easier to find it if others had the same questions.

I have reached the point on my layout (no pun intended) where I will now be placing and securing the hornby surface point motors with double sided tape and letting the three wires down through the baseboard.
At the other end on the point control system, my track diagram is almost done and I am in a position to start mounting the toggle switches in a day or two.
I have three questions, and any answer and/ or advice would be most appreciated.
