Accessing Layout Center with a Chair

I am having trouble with my swing bridge I use to access the center of my layout holding a consistent height. I suspect this has to do with the varying humidity more then anything else.

So I am considering raising my layout by about a foot and then using a desk chair to roll from the outside to the inside. It would be high enough so I wouldn't have to duck. I would put a couple of those plastic floor mats down that have spikes on one side to hold them in place on carpet.

A Visit to Ken Karlewicz' D&H Cherry Valley Branch

Just did a little write-up on my visit to Ken Karlewicz' layout over the weekend. Words fail to describe it. English words, anyway. Let's just say his work inspired me to actually speak a foreign language (briefly) - and gave my scenery motivation a boost (significantly). Read all about it over at the Valley Local . . .

First Operating Session in the new basement

Hello,

it's been some time since my last update. In May I held the first operating session in the new basement. These time my friend Daniel did the filming. After the session I had a little flooding in the layout room during a thunderstorm, but I've got lucky and only a bit of the scenery was harmed, The baseboards and electrics weren't harmed.

So here is the video from the operating session. Enjoy.

Railfanning Tabooma County

I had a chance to visit Al Carter and his beautiful home in my hometown. He has a dedicated bonus room upstairs for his Tabooma County Railroad where structures and scale vehicles are the star characters. The layout is in a decent size room of about 12’ x 20’, clearly designed for operation and has a lot going on. The photos tell the rest of the story!

Layout help.

On my layout build thread, I posted the following:
"I am way behind on my layout rebuild. My right knee is getting so I cannot be on it for too long. I will be having replacement surgery on July 22.  I said I would be on the Muskoka Fall Tour, but I think I need help getting the layout ready for the tour. Any help would be appreciated".

The first response I received was from Jack in SW MO:

Special Visitor to the Layout...

Today the layout had a very special visitor drop by for a look and run on the layout. Kevin Lee Klettke from http://wnrr.net/ fame has been keeping in touch with me for some years now. And as luck would have it, Kevin was visiting his daughter here in Melbourne.
