Animating Semaphore signals

Apart from servos controlled by ardriuno or similar complex electronic devices, are there simpler ways to operate a semaphore signal? I have thought of two. 1. Use a relay, by soldering a piece of wire to the moving contact, you can then attach that wire to the actuating arm of the semaphore to operate the blade/arm. My prototype (South African Railways) used upper quadrant semaphores, so I simply have to push the arm/blade up and keep it up till the train has passed and triggered an optical sensor to disconnect the power to the semaphore which will then reset it to danger.

Organizing, storing, and keeping track of stuff for the layout

I've seen some other posts on the NMRA facebook page about how people store things.  The one constant is that everyone accumulates lots of stuff and then needs to find it.  A couple of thoughts about the tricks I use:

Affinity Photo or other Affinity software suite projects - show and tell

Good evening all,

A suggestion in the "Killer deal on high end Affinity Photo editor" thread was to share your projects that used this software.

So, here we go!

I bought the Photo and Designer suites hoping to enhance my scratchbuilt buildings. One of the main structures on my home layout / modules is a large factory based in Canton OH. See below:

Scenery Progress

Some more scenery completed, light posts installed. For depth perception for some of the trees I have shaved off half of the foliage. This allows me to place them directly against the back wall.
The pencils stabilize the trees until the glue is fully set.

My 3D Printing Journey

This blog will document my journey into 3D printing.  I am starting from scratch, so I figured that documenting my journey may assist others into "jumping into the pool".

How do you transition a road that suddenly ends at the edge of the layout?

I have been putting quite a bit of thought into the edge of my layout and how to not have “my miniature world” just come to an end.

Diaphragm's for brass passenger cars

Good evening to all, I have a question for the everyone.

Does anyone out there have any experience with installing diaphragm’s on brass passenger cars?  If you do, could you make a recommendation on which brand I should try.

Thank you
