Kato 106-102 CN Transcontinental Train set - how to drop in a decoder

Hello,

I've bought the CN Transcontinental Train set, Kato 106-102. I bought the "standard" edtion without any lights installed. But the car at the end, the Sleeper Observetion #1903 "Trinity" does have light installed to my surprise.

I run my trains DCC so I'd like to drop in a decoder in that car to control the light. On my DCC layout the car has always the head lights switched on and I'd like to have the lights changing with the direction of travel.

How can I drop in a decoder and which one do I need?

Tsunami2 responds differently to different throttles... really?

This is making me crazy... well maybe crazierwink

I have a new Athearn Genesis GP7u (ATSF 2098). I want to set it up to work with my ProtoThrottle. on my Digitrax DCC system. I have other locos that are working fine with the PT (LokSound v4 and Tsunami decoders).

Brass Steam Pickup and Short Issues - Lead and Trailing Trucks

Hi everyone,

Should've known better...

Then to get involved with Arduino's and the like - they're very addictive and I love it!

The first time I discovered those little devils was when I read a post written by Geoff Bunza here in MRH. It was his SMA12 blog post (17 Channel Configurable Multifunction $5 DCC Decoder For Servos) and soon after his other posts were found, very interesting stuff altogether.

Stacked LED's for Turnout Indicators

Just wonder if something like these 'stacked LED's' could be used to indicated turnout setting,...maybe out near the turnout itself??    cheap enough

TCS UWT-50 Encoder or Potentiometer?

The UWT-50 development team had a debate recently about encoders vs potentiometers. My favorite has always been the potentiometer, and I didn't really care if we had an encoder version or not. But I know there are people who would prefer the encoder version. So here is my question. What advantages do you see with the encoder version over the potentiometer version?

Power in staging yard - ability to switch on/off?

Hey all,

For those of you that have staging yards, do you install switches that allow you to turn the power to each track on/off?  If you have a lot of engines just sitting in staging, why have them pulling power while parked?

I really don't want to do this due to the additional wiring complexity, but wondering what the opinions are out there as to whether it is worth the effort.
