insulate between feeders?

OK here's a slightly longwinded question for you guys' opinions:

<preamble> On my first layout, I started with DC block wiring, then converted to DCC leaving all the existing insulated rail joiners between the original blocks.

<the QUESTION> Now I’m starting to wire my new layout without blocks and I’m wondering, is it ok to wire feeders every few feet with no insulated joiners?

Questions for Ring Engineering

Hi guys,

I am a newby who has yet to make any control investment.

Ring seems to have the most innovative control system currently on the market.  This is an exciting product!

I’ve read their web site, viewed their videos, listened to Ring’s MRH podcast, and read most of the posts to this and other sites.  I need to know more, though, and thought maybe there are others that have questions.

Here are some that I have:

DCC Commentary

To All: I just got back from the layout. Set some railroad and street signs. Also ran a few

diesel locomotives. I have about 48 diesels that are DCC equipped. With 20 rail-

roads in my chosen era in E. St.Louis, it takes a lot of them! Fortunately I already

had most of the roads needed in DC locos. Being Atlas and Kato, they are easy

Problems with break squeal on Athearn Genesis

I have a factory installed Tsunami (TSU-1000) in a Athearn Genesis MP15AC.

I have a question that has had me puzzled for some time now – and that’s the break squeal.  I can’t seem to get it to work on my engine?  Pressing various as-listed function keys gets me what I believe is the air break sound – but coming to a stop I hear nothing.

Pressing the Option button on the PowerCab (default for brake) it just stops completely.

Short circuit

I have a short somewhere and can't find it. I was running trains Saturday evening. All was well. Sunday afternoon I went to run again and I have a short and can't find it. Is there a way to zero in on a short?

Installing Dcc and Sound in older proto 1000 GP20s

Recently a friend of mine brought over a couple of older proto 1000 GP20s and has asked me to install DCC and sound into them. They are nice locos but are very tight on space. i think i can get a tsunami sound decoder into them but where to put the speaker?  It looks like the only possibile space is to black out the cab windows and put it in the cab. I am really beginning to think that simply replacing the older locos with newer models might be his best bet. I have done speaker installs in cabs before and have not had the results i would like.

Help using one engine with Cab04P/Powercab

I’m pretty new to DCC – and while I like the NCE system, I’m not particularly fond of the large hammerhead handheld controller and the long flat cable that must be used.  I want to use a Cab04p along with my Powercab.  I like the rotary knob and compactness of the 04 engineer cab.

Problem is I currently use one engine (Athearn MP15AC).  I was planning to tuck the Powercab and PCP under the layout and install a UTP where the PCP was to allow simple disconnecting of the 04p when not in use.

How to Build a Manual Turntable

Here's a "How To" on how I built a custom N scale 8" manual turntable.

I posted this as part of my Free-moN Staging Yard construction thread, but thought it'd be good to establish as its own thread for comments, search and archiving purposes.

TCS FL4 for Athearn Bombardier Cab Car

Hey Guys,

Decided to light all my Athearn cars and put decoders in the cab cars for ditch lights and control of directional marker and headlights.  I was advised the TCS FL4 would have the required functions to do this.  Please note, I am still electrically a novice here.

Having only installed one TCS hardwire decoder before I was a little leary, but dove in.

So far I have installed the interior lights and capacitor and they work fine.  (LED strip lights).

DCC Conversion

HELP! Someone posted a blog with a link to a shop in the midwest that does DCC Conversions (Tom's Trains?) and now I can't find it. Pease re-post or send me the link (gryhound1@verizon.net) as I need to send some info to them on my Bershire conversions.

Thanks.
