DCC - Electrical

My projects

This project has been on my mind for quite some time. About ten years ago my grandfather passed away and my father and I inherited his stable of german locos and cars in H0 scale. We enjoyed running them on the São Paulo Model Railway club (Sociedade Brasileira de Ferromodelismo), but since I went to University they sat on our shelves (and I dont mean Shelf Layout), until I got a job and decided to build a layout, but for that I bought a NCE powercab.

Soldering Station

Hi

I am after suggestions on buying a soldering station.  I have used various size soldering irons in the past but I would prefer an adjustable station.  Any suggestions on brand, heat range, wattage, etc?  It would be used for (in the future) surface mounts (presumably needing a lower heat setting) up to  soldering PCB ties to rail.  I am after as much information as I can get before deciding on the type to buy.

Onboard animations

I'd like to share my latest creation being an On3 (O scale narrow gauge 3 foot) AMS C-16 loco with a trio of working animations.

The bell works and has a tiny toothbrush motor driven by a TCS FL4 (Function Lighting) decoder in the cabin roof. The FL decoder is programmed (Decoder Pro) to F1 (bell) the same as the Tsunami sound decoder so by pressing F1 both the Tsunami and the FL decoders activate the bell ring sound and the bell swinging movement.

resitors for LED's

Q for Bruce: In your June article on pp16 you mentioned using a resistor on the white and yellow leads. I wonder if you couldn't just use one resistor on the combined blue lead? I realize they don't cost much, but anywhere you can save a penny, eh? John Colley, Port Townsend, WA

Short Circuit

I need some help with a short circuit.

NCE DCC Decoders

To All: Received a four pack DA-SR NCE Decoder pack from Walthers Friday.

I plan on installing them this week in Kato diesels, 3 GP7's and one RS-1

Two Geeps in NKP, one  Geep in a NC&St.L,and an RS-1 in C&EI colors.

They are easy drop in's that requires the wires to be soldered. This will

Programming a Bachmann DCC sound equipped loco

I've got (3) Bachmann DCC sound equipped loco that I would like to change the loco address using my Digitrax Zephyr system. Although I've got an external programming booster connected to the Zephyr I can't seem to change the address using the programming track. Any help will be appreciated!

traction motors

Guys,

Evan built enough traction motors to fill our back orders on the RP25/88 40" wheel versions and have ten remaining.

We will have another batch of P87 40" versions ready this weekend.

If you have any desire, need, or want, get them when we have no lead time.  They are hand assembled and made to order.

Thanks,

Christopher Howard
