DCC - Electrical

A Different Idea for Sound equipped small scale locos.

I started this thread just as a friendly discussion on how to adapt and/or change the current use of DCC and sound technology for the smaller scales.  Please lets keep it focused on the idea.  Remember it is just an idea for those of us running the smaller scales.

JL&T Railroad Blog - Installing a Auto Reverser...

Well this week our DCC Specialities PSX-AR Auto reverser arrived, and it has already been installed on the JL&T under the centre peninsula.

The PSX-AR comes with very good instructions for installation & additional add ons...

Help needed for decision DCC-Equipment

Hello all,

ok, after I have restartet with model railroading, it's now time to make my decision which DCC equipment I will buy and install.

The mainline run of my 0n30 layout will be 180 feet with two decks, the maximum of locomotives  will be ten simultaneously. I really don't know where to place so much people in sessions, but I think, so I will have a little 'reserve'.

Stretch Braking... Will the new QSI Titan decoder accomplish this?

It appears that the new QSI Titan decoder will feature Power Braking.  Does anyone know if this will be the same as Stretch Braking described in previous posts?

Auto-Reverse question

I am running a Digitrax operation with an AR1 and Kato engines.  The auto-reverse was installed per the instructions and works great.  My question is what is taking place when the engines move across the gaps.  Is their a polarity reversal on the auto-reverse section of the track or is the decoder in the engine changing or what????  I understood with DCC the AC voltage is constant throughout the layout, is there also DC on the track that reverses?

Just hook it up and go

Given the complaints about the complexity of DCC, I wanted to share this.

AMP draw on Athearn Blue Box SD40-2's

I was playing around with one of the Athearn SD40-2's that I will be upgrading to DCC and some sound, and drug out the RRamp Meter.

I had the engine at dead stop stall, and I was only showing anywhere between .20 and .40 on amps when throttle set on 12 volts, pure DC.  I drug out some others, and they all were in the same range.  Put two together and stalled them and it was not quite double that single unit range.

3 way turnouts & DCC

I am using Easy DCC from CVP and am looking for someone who can help me wire up a 3 way Fleischman turnout (has 2 motors) so that I can use 3 addresses (1 for each branch) and one of CVP's accessory decoders. Problem I am running into is moving from one of the branches to another some times requires on motor and some times it requires both.

MRC 0001665 Sound Decoder

Anyone had experience with the MRC 0001665 sound decoders?

Likewise the Digitrax Sound bug and SFX 0416 sound decoders?

any advice appreciated.

Sound only decoders

Hi guys,

I have a number of steam locomotives as well as diesels that have the normal decoders installed. Is it possible to install a sound only decoder that works in conjunction with existing decoder?

If so , can anyone recommend which decoder could work?

Would hate to have to remove the existing decoders. This would be very costly for me!!
