DCC - Electrical
lifespan of a pickup
What is the life expectancy of the small wipers used to pick up current from insulated wheels? I have several geared HO steamers that have all-wheel pick up and their contact points don’t look all that substantial. I am looking for an estimate of time before I’ll have to deal with what looks like a daunting job. I doubt they last forever and am curious if there is a reliable way to prevent/reduce wear (other than not running them).

Help to open a brass tender
Hi all,
today I come back home with the idea to finally fit a Tsunami 750 inside my two N scale brass Mikes but.... surprise !
I've done some other brass in the past, but it's the first time I found the tender nearly sealed!
SO... here's my problem:
DCC, tiny 603 LEDs for headlights, and explorations in Mancos CO
Another blog post - this detailing my weekend's efforts in updating a brass steamer to DCC and adding my first 603 LED in the headlight. And, some discoveries in Mancos CO.

BLI U.P.Big Boy: extreme trouble with decoders.
I have the above loco with BLI sound decoder and replacement NCE N14IP motor decoder, following "Short".
I have replaced Engine PCB, Tether and BLI sound decoder.
I have motion but no sound, however when I take out the NCE N14IP I have sound.
I operate with Lenz 100 system.
Are you able to render any advice to rectify this problem I have seen on American Hobby distributors website that this is a common problem with this BLI decoder and a recommendation to purchase a "Powepax" to overcome it.
New Speaker
Guys,
We got new speaker samples, they work awesome! Still a very crystal clear sound but we've been able to revise the casing so they are smaller.
They are 37 MM X 14 MM X 10 MM.
They are available for order now.

Noisy locomotive
My locomotives are making a high frequency whirring sound when idle. The problem seems to be in sections that are circuit protected. using nce powercab with dcc specialties psx breakers and tcs decoders installed. Running in dcc mode.
Anyone experience similar noisy locos?
Power Supply Run Length Limit?
I must make a decision where to mount a Digitrax PS2012 power supply so I can route 120v to the correct location. The plan is to use two boosters each centered in the middle of their respective buss runs to keep the buss length below the maximum 50' Digitrax recommends. The single PS2012 will power both boosters. I would like to mount the power supply 20-30 wire run feet from either booster. The run from power supply to boosters goes up to the ceiling, through the joists, and drops at the booster location. This creates the run lengths shown.
