DCC What to do?

Hi All...

I am just getting back into modeling after about 26 years away. DCC is really new to me and I want to get a system for my new layout. With all of the different systems it is a bit over whelming.

I don't want to buy something and them later realize what I bought doesn't do enough for me. I am not sure what I even can get or what is a good or not so good system.

Can you all direct me to good systems and possible share what possibilities there are out there using DCC and what other additions might work well.

Neophite Modeler Needs all the help he can get!!!

NeophiteFirst off, greetings to all from me, Bruce Bennett. I'm a rather new member to the forum and train modeling as well. I'm back into modeling after a 40+ year hiatus.  DCC brought me back!  Anyway, I've got a rather large 4 car garage of which I'm only using half of. The unused half was used for storage of a 38' class B motorhome. Since the motorhome is gone I now have approximately  300 square feet with a 15' tall ceiling.  I've included a .jpg drawing of the garage (not to scale) to give you an idea what I have to work with.

JMRI error 306

I'm trying to program decoders using JMRI and Sprog II and have done successfully in the past 5 days.  Turned computer back on with nothing else changed and I keep getting an error 306 - timeout talking to the command station.  I put back locomotives successfully programmed last week and continue to get the same error on the programming track.  I've tried connecting directly to the wires coming out of Sprog II with not success.  Port assignment has not changed and the computer does identify Sprog II as using that port.  I tried restarting the computer and

Powering Kato Turnouts

Hello All

I have recently purchased a kit of HO Kato Unitrack (Black River Junction) and a NCE Power Cab to start my first layout.

I would appreciate some advice on how best to power the turnouts.  I am considering purchasing NCE Switch-Kat accessory decoders but I will need at least 11 of them as one is needed for each turnout (except for the crossover where I can use one decoder for 2 switches) and the cost is rather high.

Any suggestions that would be more economical?

Thanks

Mike

Converting Rivarossi Berk to DCC

I know; I know; the're old, but I really really want to convert one of my 6 (count 'em) Rivarossi NKP Bershires to DCC with sound. I got most of them for less than $15 at a yard sale a few years ago.

Can anyone walk me through parts and "labor" to convert one of these pole-type motorized engines to DCC? New Berkshires at $400 plus are a bit out of my range and I hate to have to give up these engines for scrap or something.

Trouble shooting the Walther's N turntable.

So I was making some fine-tuning adjustments to my Walther's built up turntable, the earlier non-DCC one, and I think I may have rooned it.

In the process of cleaning and adjusting the wipers in the pit that transfer track and motor power to the bridge, I think I created a short that lasted longer than it liked.  Now when I turn on the main power to it, the LED just blinks and blinks and blinks.  I get track power, but no movement of the table whatsoever.

Prodigy question

DCC Question:  I think it's time for a power booster.  My Prodigy Squared doesn't seem to have enough juice to trip the auto reverse loops when I have more than 4 or 5 locos running.  Looking at the booster options, there is 3.5 and 8amp, but the 3.5 is a "district booster".  I don't really want to create districts.  Is it possible to plug both the base unit and the booster to the main power feeds?  Would I get 7 amp if I combine the 3.5 boo
