shorts with 1150 bulb
I am using a 5a fuse between my power supply and my Digitrax DB150. I have installed a 1150 bulb in each block. In one particular block, I will get a short ( bulb lites) and it immediately blows the fuse. Digitrax say that the bulb creates a high resistance short as opposed to a hard short which will trigger the DB150 to shut down.
Anyone experience a similar problem? If so, your solution please.
Thanks...Ken
Solution For Non-Flickering Lights
Hi, Jack from Star, Idaho. Awhile back I submitted a blog for non.flickering lights. Here is the solution that worked great! I used a device called a "constant voltage source." The item is a LM334Z three leg device that is tiny and will fit into any car or engine easily. I purchase it from "Electronic goldmine" for a cost of $.79 each. I found this can work from 12-20 volts and control lights or a sound only decoder. I have not tried it yet with sound and motor control however, it should work.
Display console with DCC?
I'm in the throws of building a shelf layout that will run around a 10' x 12' room. I have wired it as though it were going to be DC controlled, with each block subdivided for block detection (I know this also makes troubleshooting DCCshorts much easier).
Power District Wiring Options/Question
I have started laying track in my staging area and figured that I should start planning for power distribution sooner rather than later. This staging area is a 24' long "L" shape through staging. Each throat will be it's own power block as will each staging track and the through track. I will end up with 8 power blocks in this one power district. I am planning on using the Tam Valley Depot 5 Amp DCC Booster Board (DAB002) for power and a circuit breaker specifically for this power district.
MRC Diesel Sound Only Decoders
Hi Jack from Star, Idaho. I have five dummy BNSF HO prime movers that I installed MRC sound only decoders in and I want to make some changes such as volume levels etc but for the life of me I can not find my manual that shows the CV values. Is there anyone out there that has a manual or tell me where to find one? I checked MRC's web page but had no luck in finding one...
Frog Juicer vs Turnout Motor Contacts
I am confronting wiring up the 40 odd turnouts in my layout and am curious as to the tradeoffs between using frog juicer circuitry to power my frogs or the switched contacts on the turnout motors? I am using both Tortoise motors and Atlas solenoids -- the later on the upper shelf of my layout. Motive power is pretty much all short wheelbase steam, so powered frogs to avoid turnout stalling seems pretty much mandatory. Using the contacts provides deterministic frog polarity where as the frog juicer appears indeterminate as it is driven by short detection.
A solution for a problem... TVD solution retired, ISE successor?
Dear MRH Team,
I have a layout design/control issue, which I need a solution for.
I _think_ I know how I'd deal with it, but in the spirit of being "open to new ideas/options",
I though I'd run it past the brains-trust here.
Richfield RailRunners
Hello All, Our 5th week of work and we ave about a 3rd of the layout up. Last week we built a 3 turn helix using spline roadbed. It looks GREAT and the trains move up and down perfectly. This week we are going to put electrical drops in and continue laying track.
Tortoise and Peco Electrofrog wiring
Hi
I’m just getting started and having trouble understanding how to wire Peco (Electrofrog) switches, Tortoise switch motors together with switches and LEDs for my control panel. I am including a diagram i have made.
Is this diagram correct? Is my math concerning the current, voltage and resistance correct? Have missed something?
DB150, PR3, Decoder Pro doesn't read from track.
Hi,
As a new user I have been able to get the Digitrax DB150 with PR3 and DecoderPro working with a couple WiThrottles. What I cannot get working is the "Identify" or "Read From" buttons in DecoderPro to be anything but ghosted out.
Is it the USB interface that is not fully functioning, or the DB150 not support "Read From".
Thanks for assistance,
E. Palmer
