21-pin decoders
I've decided that the 21pin NMRA decoder standard has a major problem.
Which side is up?
When I can do this (I realized my error before putting it on the tracks), there really is a problem here:
Why did someone think it was a good idea to put the holes all the way through the connector/socket?
Analog ammeter for DCC
Hi,
I'd like to use analogue meters on my panel to display the current draw from a booster. Does anyone have experience doing this? How inaccurate would it be to use a plain AC ammeter on DCC? Would I have to resort to a current monitor? Are there stock circuits around I could just use, or maybe PC boards available for this application? Seems like someone would have done this by now.

P2K Alco S-1 Switcher DCC
Okay, so, I just got a blue box Life Like Proto 2000 Alco S-1 switcher... and I thought to myself "Hey... I have a Digitrax sound decoder, factory speaker, and some LED bulbs, I'm going to put DCC into this DCC ready engine!"
The problem, is I have NO CLUE where I'm going to fit it. It looks like there is zero space between the top of the frame, and the top of the shell!
DCC Test Track Wiring Question.
I have a question for those with more DCC and electrical/electronic experience then I have.
I have a NCE powercab that I would like to connect to my program track on my modelbench.
Also I have the NCE USB interface I would like to use so that I can download and use JMRI for programming.

DCC Sound install in a Bachmann GP30
After attending the Amhearst Hobby Show and finding a few good deals (this is one of them) on sound decoders, I will install one in a Bachmann GP30 that was originally DCC only. This is a straightforward install and although it is somewhat step by step, I see it as an overview on how I do it. This enging was one of those purchases I made when I was just getting into DCC. The engine always runs very well but I knew that a quality decoder would make a difference. Just getting around to it now and I hope to show how I do it!
Decoder overheat in Penna. Loco Works (Bowser) metal shell
I'm repurposing a cast metal Penna Loco Works FM shell on an Atlas H 16-44 chassis. I've outfitted it with a Loksound Select decoder and two Tony's sugar cube speakers.

MTH F3 bad actor
Has anyone had any issues with the MTH F3 with Proto Sound?
I have been given the task of trouble shooting the buga-boos in this loco.
The loco was sent to me and was reported to stop dead when the horn was engaged and is jerky when it runs. When it was reset using F8=8, it did not change anything but the cab number back to 03.

Withrottle problem
When I use my Withrottle it will not display the dual throttle mode. That is the mode in which it displays 2 throttles on one screen. It used to display dual throttles, but stopped doing it. I can't find any setting for "dual throttle" display. How do I get it back? I have googled the question to no avail.
