The Mud Bay & Western #3 - Roughing in the Benchwork
Based on the overall plan presented in the previous post (The New Plan), it is time to rough in the benchwork.
Part of the benchwork is anchored directly to the walls while the peninsula is self-supporting in the middle of the room. This required two different approaches for support. Around the walls we used shelf brackets. For the peninsula we used an aluminum frame.

Need help calculating run-around length
I’m reworking an old track plan, part of which I utilize a run-around. Unfortunately, space is tight and inches count.
I wound like to run-around 58 inches which should allow for 6 cars and a few extra inches. I will use #6 turnouts with track spacing of 2 inches.

Plan for Intermodal Yard -Trenton Subdivision in N Scale
After a few days of "trial and error" I have decided on a final design for the Intermodal Yard on my layout, The Trenton Subdivision in N scale.
I decided to keep to the basics to create a modest intermodal area capable of both container and trailer operations without taking over the entire layout. I used AnyRail 6 to design the schematic.

One Trick Pony
Having spent a lot of time researching the prototype railroad I want to model...I have found out that they do one thing pretty good.
They move a lot of covered hoppers in grain service.
Looking to duplicate this in the model version...the idea looks to be that one trick pony. Visitors will not be able to differentiate between rice, soybeans, sorghum or wheat.
Starting an Intermodal Yard on my Trenton Subdivision in N Scale
Comments/suggestions wanted. Taking advantage of some "free" time over the holidays, I have roughed in the area that I planned for an Intermodal Yard on my layout. I have several trailer units that I have custom built with various Canadian transport companies. I take a photo of the prototype, then crop out everything except the trailer side.
