Any Database Programmers Out There?

I have been working on a waybill generation program off and on for quite a few years.  I'm using Visual Basic 6 to do this.  Presently the program uses one database with many tables, some of which contain "static" data, others with the "dynamic" stuff.

N-Scale uncoupling

I've been searching for several years for a good way to uncouple cars on my N-scale layouts. I've tried the Rix tool, jeweler's screwdrivers and bamboo skewers inserted into the pair of couplers but nothing works really well and some cars are so resistant that they actually derail during the process. The problem occurs with all brands of couplers. I don't want to use magnetic uncouplers in the track because I do a lot of switching and the uncouplers would always be in the wrong places.

Any ideas? What works for you?

Friday Night Group Operations at Dave Primeau's New England Masterpiece

Dave Primeau's HO scale layout depicts the CPR's Lyndonville Subdivision and the B&M Connecticut River, a line running from Newport, Vermont to White River Junction, Vermont. The Maine Central,St. J&LC and Central Vermont railroads all make appearances at the various junctions along the line.

CITY OF INDUSTRY LAYOUT Project 02-12

Here is my second project, and it is a departure from my previous plan to begin design on the MP/TP operations in New Orleans, namely the Race St. Yard, and Annunciation St. Passenger Terminal, with some of the surrounding industry which the railroad served, i am still in the very rough planning stage for it still gathering information and maps and photographs of the area for the time period during the war and just afterward, pre-NOUPT era.

Meet at Cedar

I haven't posted many new photos lately, but that's not because things aren't happening.  There's more scenery underway, some new track, more structures...

Here are a couple photos from a recent operating session showing a train order meet executed by the road crews of an eastbound manifest and westbound priority pig train at Cedar.  Both trains have UP pool power.  These aren't great shots, but provide views most of you haven't seen showing the big picture of the area.

Capital upgrade of railroads

I was researching operations for Louisiana in general and New Orleans in particular and ran across a study by the state.  It had several areas of rail upgrade throughout the state relating to 286,000 pound car traffic.  It shows various projects by short lines as well as the class I lines.

Has anyone done any upgrades to their infrastructure while continuing operations like the prototype would have to do?

Just wondering how to create this environment.

ICRR NEW ORLEANS circa late 1940's Layout for N-Scale

Well its finally finished (mostly, Benchwork drawings would need to be done before construction begins), and here it is for your use if you want it, and would love to get your feedback. The track plan is drawn in AutoDesk 2006 for anyone that wants it, contact me at guymartin1956@gmail.com.

Made complete

From a post on the Train Dispatching 201 Yahoo site:

"Effective 12:03 AM , Sept. 4, 2012, the Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) stopped using train orders. No other railroad in the United States and Canada uses train orders, so this is the end of a very long era."

I have to admit I didn't think anyone had been using train orders in the last 20 years, however other posters indicated that they're still in effect on a number of scenic railways,  Cumbres & Toltec being one.
