Norfolk Southern GE 70-Ton Loco (A Cheapskate kit-bash)

I really enjoyed the article in this month's MRH (October) on modeling a NS GE 70-tonner. I own a model of that loco from Bachmann, and it got me to thinking about some work I could do on it. Up to that point, it was detailed and painted for my freelance RR, but I have been wanting to find an obscure, short line prototype railroad to model.

Stripping a brass locomotive

I am planning to purchase a small sand blaster ans a soft medium to strip the paint off of a brass steamer that I have. I was wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction with a decent sand blaster and medium. I was thinking fine walnut shells. Please let me know.

Sealing Wood Kit

Before constructing wood kits I've heard it's a good idea to seal the pieces to prevent warping.

Can you use dull cote for this or is a primer recommended? If a primer is the best way to go, what type is recommended?

paint formula

Hello; Does anybody have a paint formula to match Walthers Rio Grande Gold using floquil paints. Thanks for any help

Scratchbuilding structures, and track replaced

Today I pulled the Shinohara code 70 flex track off of my two extension modules for the Woodland Fill, and re-laid it with Atlas code 55.  I also add some new strain reliefs and tidied up the wiring.

Kits to build rail cars

Are there any kits available for building rail cars both freight and passenger?  If so where?  Thanks.

Show us your before and after pictures.

How about some before and after pictures of your guys layouts, rolling stock, and locomotive builds.

I was looking at pictures of some of the buildings and rolling stock I built for the layout. This is a before and after shot of my Basic Oxygen Furnace.

Questions about homemade shingles

What material do folks use? I've seen suggestions of very fine grade black sandpaper and that's the first thing that comes to mind but I also had a kit once that used what looked like construction paper.  Is there a certain pattern they should be cut  and/or laid in?  Commercial products are not an option right now. These have to be made out of something readily available at the local Wal mart, office or building supply store. If it matters, these will be put on an older steam era type structure.

Where to get pc ties?

Okay I'm ready to try handlaying a turnout. I have read books, articles, forum topics ad nauseum. But one question keeps popping up in my head. What are pc ties and where does one get them?
