Electrical question

A quick question.I run dc with block control.tonight i did some ballasting using the wet water treatment.About 30 mins later i went to run a train away fron the area i was working when i turned the power on in one block all the blocks became powered.
Could tbis have to do with the wet water not being completely dried and the moisture is causing problems,
Thank you

Connect wiring to board

I built over 15 years ago n gauge train set within a coffee table.  I have included all the wiring for street lights etc but I don't know how, or know anyone who can connect wiring to board so I can run the trains  can anyone help me  I am in Kapiti, Wellington, New Zealand.

Passenger car lighting

I am lighting a 1910 style observation car. For the main interior lights, I am using the Minitronics modlel # 100-ICL-01 HO Scale Interior car lighting. The capasitor makes the LEDs have consistent light with no flickering. So far so good. But now add a drum light, side marker lights, and a porch light on the rear deck - all LEDs, all with their own resistors pre-wired in, but no capacitor

Does anyone know where I can find what capacitor I need (I don't even know capacitor nomenclature), where to find/buy it and how to wire it?

Build a simple block occupancy detector

There are a lot of reasons why we would want to electronically detect the presence of a train. This series of posts will cover a simple method of doing that using a classic circuit published by Richard Schumacher in the NMRA Gateway division website. There will be at least three sections, covering

Track Occupancy

Hi gang. I'm looking for simple and economical occupancy detection circuit to follow a train from staging through a helix. I'm thinking an infrared detection circuit to turn on a series of LED's as the trains pass to and from staging and through a long multiple loop helix would be the way to go. This is for a friend that has a limited budget. I'm willing to build them for him. I just don't have a circuit diagram.

Any ideas or product recommendations?

replacing wheels and motor in athearn blue box sw 1000 and sw7 calf.

i am planning on rebuilding my old athearn blue box sw 1000 an sw7 calf switchers.can i use the genesis repowering kit ? and what size wheels should i use for them?

Headlamps on Brass Steam

Hi everyone,

I am looking to add a headlight to my brass 0-8-0 made in the 1960's by Tenshodo. Does anybody have good tutorials on how to do this or recommendations for lights/leds to use? The light is not mounted to the smokebox and hangs out from it's center on it's front face, see the Great Northern C-1 class 0-8-0's for a better picture.

I am doing a two phase DCC conversion starting with the headlamp and motor and then installing a light on the tender with a speaker later.

Thanks ahead of time.

DC locomotive needing to be hand-started - help?

Hi all,

My train club recently asked me to build a locomotive for them, to run back and forth on a mining line above the club's O/On30 layout.  The donor is one of the HO scale Bachmann Christmas Trolleys (http://shop.bachmanntrains.com/images/HO_Scale/61040.jpg).

Arduino DC wireless dc train controller using a pair of NRF24L01

I am after a way to get wireless Arduino remote train controls. I am looking at using an NRF24l01 with two Arduino mini. Now the WDMRC has 12 sections (2-3 years away from complete rewire to have DCC ) these are an interim solution.

I saw this video and it is a starting point i think.
