Needed: Opinions on DC walkaround throttles

Hi-

I'm looking at getting a Starr-Tec Hogger walk around throttle (new in box), and wanted to know opinions and reviews of this throttle. Also, what are the other choices out there for handheld walk around DC throttles? TIA.

No LEDs tried everything

I am putting a simple Digitrax D123 decoder (no sound) into an older but very nice Bachman GP9. I have the red wire connected to the frame on the engineer's side and the black wire connected to the left hand side of the frame, the motor is totally isolated with the orange and grey wires connected top and bottom. the engine runs perfectly in either DC or DCC.

I got a Kato powerpack as part of an M1 kit and hooked it up to my track. I was not able to get my Bachmann EMD GP50 diesel to work. I checked all connections, and used my multimeter to verify voltage across the track at various points. I removed the body from the locomotive. I verified that the front and back lights come on, but the motor armature will not turn.

After reading up on the Internet, I suspect the brushes aren't contacting the wheels properly. The wheels seem shiny enough to me.

FRANK MILOTTE'S OTTAWA NORTHERN & WESTERN RAILWAY

This is a blast from the past and Frank takes us on a tour of his layout.  He talks about DC systems shows us panels and wiring and we see how operations are conducted in the block system.  A final run of trains demonstrates the method of layout building in the day when dogbone loops allowed for extra operations in a small basement.

Ditch lights.

A question for any and all willing to give me some ideas   Ditch lights.  I've gotten in the habit of trying to add ditch lights to a loco that I fix up, add DCC to, or just refurbish, DC or DCC.  What are you guys using?

I've gone through a pile of tiny incandescent bulbs trying to find the perfect mix of brightness and resistor.  Maybe I should go to LED's ?

MRServo: An Introduction

Ever wanted to automate the turnouts on your layout?  Maybe you have some that are hard to reach?  Or maybe you have a hidden staging yard?  Do you model a modern CTC-controlled subdivision and want to give your dispatcher realistic control over the turnouts?  Or maybe you have a multi-deck layout and other switch machines are too bulky to sit below the upper decks?  No matter what the situation, MRServo is a cost-effective solution!
