Ontario South Central Railway
Hello, my name is Brad Ketchen. I am a musician, music engineer, sound editor and composer living in the Greater Toronto area. I say the GTA as my Girlfriend and I are moving to a condo in Toronto. This creates a dilemma, as I figure out the future of my railroad, Ontario South Central Railway and accomodating it in our new living space. Luckily, my girlfriend understands the need for a room to relocate the OSCR as well as my current location of the railroad on the adjacent wall to my recording work station.
How do you clean loco wheels?
Now that I've managed my Labor Day goal of getting my track down (all 20 ft of it), I've discovered the wheels of my Bachman 44 tonner exude black gunk. After a just a couple of weeks on a shelf, it stalls randomly on shiny rails. It's particularly sensitive to track irregularities (nice of it to point those out), and starts up again with just a breath of a push, so it clearly has dead spots on the wheels.
Scale Model Animation 6 – Down at the Dock Again and DCC Sound Advice?
Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! This entry starts with taking a snapshot of my animation down at the dock and presents some experimentation with cell phone earpiece speakers with Digitrax and TCS WOW decoders.
SAVE MONEY..... MAKE TERMINAL JOINERS
SAVE SOME MONEY, MAKE YOUR OWN CUSTOME TERMINAL RAIL LONERS. FOR EVERY PAIR YOU MAKE, YOU WILL SAVE $3.00, DON'T SOUND LIKE MUCH BUT, MULTIPLY THAT BY THE QUANTITY YOU NEED... I SEE LOTS OF$$$$$$. IT'S FAST & EASY...TRY IT YOU'LL LIKE IT. I DO MINE IN "N" USING CODE 55 RAIL SO IT WILL BE EVEN EASIER FOR THE LARGER SCALES
Wiring Atlas Switch Machines
Can some one tell me how to wire a Miniatronics momentary toggle with 6 terminals to an Atlas switch machine? I have one of the new Atlas switch control boxes with the red and green LEDs, the push button sticks and cooks the machine. Thanks!!
Chasing Lights (74HC595 Register + TI Launchpad)
Okay ladies and gents, here's a Chasing Light project using a single Shift Register (74HC595) and a TI Launchpad. (I'm currently following a line of research using the Shift Registers, but there is an easier way to do this with just a Launchpad alone.) It can be easily adapted for many uses. Examples include, but not limited to:
Update: 1:24 Model of a Whelen Liberty (44″) lightbar
The lightbar project work continues! All the proper ohm value SMD resistors *finally* arrived in the mail, and a few short evening work sessions later, the resistors are in place, dud LED light modules replaced and leads carefully soldered in... we have an operational Lightbar!
1:24 Model of a Whelen Liberty (44") Lightbar
Well, the last lightbar was a technical success that met with an unfortunate fate when it shifted inside it's resin cast. Really, it is a shame because I was very happy with it. But with every failure comes knowledge and lessons learned, so I am moving on without too much angst.
Scale Model Animation 5 – Building Building Animation
Model animation—bringing models to life—adds enormously to the interest and enjoyment of any layout or individual model! We notice things when they move, and we often notice things only when they change. But change can also be sensed in light intensity, patterns, color, and sound. Let’s see what can bring an otherwise static building to life.
Arduino based speed or light controller
This is an Arduino program that provides high speed pulse width modulation suitable (with appropriate electronic drivers) to control LEDS, lamps, DC motors and DC locos. So far I have tested it with LEDs and a small DC motor. I invite those so inclined to try it and point out the bugs and suggest improvements. (There's more than one way to code a cat.)
