Helix Help needed

I am seeking help with a bit of a construction issue.  I am building a 2 level layout, and with out scrapping the top and lowering the main level to add a 3rd level to get me to the top, and an issue with the no-lix that i wanted to do with a 2.5% grade, and run that along one 14ft wall and have it hit the second level around the other top, which now I don't think will work, with out up-ing the grade, it seems I am left to choice to go a helix route at this time.

Madly Off in All Directions

I have a problem.

I start but do not finish each MRR project.

My most recent has been to create and inventory of all my MRR stuff.  And so far I am sticking to it.

But I've though what I need to do is apply some business project management to my MRR Hobby.

I'm thinking of DCC.

I know I need a rewire.

My wife thinks we need to put down a floor in the basement (currently concrete)

I have a dozen or so, well OK maybe two dozen or so half finished buildings.

Thanks

I just "stumbled in" to this web site and am pleased to have joined. Very informative and I will be using information from here as I finally put my "paper dream layout" I have been carrying around for 30 years into lumber and trackwork. Yes, I'm a retired person who has been "in the hobby" almost all my life and now have the chance to do more than dream and draw.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory How To #3 (Advanced Date Entry)

There were no comments, pro or con, to # 2 which made me feel a bit like our host publisher. See the thread "Publisher's editorial: The silence can be deafening". I did receive an email from a user of Easy Model Railroad Inventory with a question. He mentioned that the How To was a help. Not resounding but enough to encourage me to start # 3.

Need a good and fast paint remover

Looking for something to use to take the paint off complete off plastic engines and cars with out to much elbow grease.

I have tried Testors ELO (easy lift off paint and decal remover) this stuff is to slow and does not work to good .

Just got done trying 90 %  isopropyl alcohol and a tooth brush and after about 4 hours of scrubbing of two layers of commerical applied paint on a engine did not do such a good job either.

Easy Model Railroad Inventory How To #1

I was able to attend the auction held by the Tidewater Division of the NMRA this past Saturday. I was able to sell some stuff that I was not using and buy some stuff I do need. Or at least thought I needed according to my wife. I was on the lookout for 40' gondolas, and 40' flat cars. For some reason they are very hard to find. As it turned out I was able to find and buy 2 gondolas and at least 10 box cars. Maybe my wife is right!

Is there a poor man's way to turn down those flanges?

Photography Tricks

When taking pictures of a layout, many modelers will opt for a wide angle view of the scene so that details can be appreciated.  But what if the layout is a "Plywood Pacific"?  The answer is to go in close.  Make the train fill the photo so that other details aren't needed.
