The WORST part of model railroading!
Fellow modelers,
O.K. - it's your chance to CRY like a baby about what you like the least about model railroading.....and why.
I'll start the ball rolling: For me, it's ballasting track, and yes I've read / seen all of the "easy" and "best" ways to do it.......I just don't like to do it! Why? I don't know why - maybe because it takes away from my time on structures and scenery which are my favorite things.
Your turn - please give your least favorite.

My Kindle Fire beats my iPad2-3g
What? Yes, my Kindle Fire beats my iPad2-3g when it comes to WiFi connection at my home. I have a Linksys 2.4 wireless router and use it with both my KF and IP. I can connect reliably with my Kindle Fire anywhere in my home, on my front porch, and even standing in my driveway. My iPad only connects when I'm no more than 30 feet from my router and won't work at all on the front porch or driveway. I also have to turn my WiFi off and back on again on the iPad once I loose connection with my router.
Months in Minutes - Time lapse video

"You're a better modeler than I'll ever be"
"You're a better modeler than I'll ever be"
That's what a good friend and fellow modeler said to me recently. Now, I appreciate the compliment, but I have to take issue with the statement. For one thing, he's a perfectly good modeler in his own right, and more than once I've called and asked for his help or advice.
E. St. Louis Rail Group
To All: This is a new blog. My name is Elvin Howland from Jacksonville, Florida (previously, Manton, Michigan). I run a business called Layout Concepts. I sell scratch built, kit bashed and kit built kits, paint and letter freight cars and build train layouts. I have a Facebook page called layout concepts that features my work in various categories. My layout is an HO scale double deck one that measures 11' by 21' and is controlled by a Digitrax system. I model 1950-1970 on the layout. The area modeled is E. St. Louis, Illinois.
22 Stories Up - Module 5
A continuation to the story following my progress of the Central Vermont RR's Barre Branch layout's construction.
Making the best of a bad situation... Rebuilding an earthquake damaged layout.
You are all probably aware that we have had six major earthquakes in Christchurch, New Zealand in the last 18 months (not to mention the 10,000 aftershocks) which have changed our city and our lives forever.
The last one was on the 23 December 2011 and while not as big or violent as the Feb 22 quake it came from a different direction and managed to shunt everything a couple of inches to the west including everything in the cupboards, on shelves and the pathways, driveway and house !
