Steam locos

Aristo-Craft?

So, a few days ago I was on ebay, looking for a (HO) steam locomotive. During my search, I found this:

Should the Docksider be reintroduced? [Poll posted]

Poll found here; http://www.strawpoll.me/13644820

Reading the new announcement thread from Walthers, many were disappointed by the absence of steam era products. This got me thinking, how much interest would there be in a good running, 2017 level detailed, DCC/sound ready 0-4-0 steam locomotive.

Perhaps it is time to revive a piece of model railroading legend, the Baltimore and Ohio class C-16 "Docksider"

Headlamps on Brass Steam

Hi everyone,

I am looking to add a headlight to my brass 0-8-0 made in the 1960's by Tenshodo. Does anybody have good tutorials on how to do this or recommendations for lights/leds to use? The light is not mounted to the smokebox and hangs out from it's center on it's front face, see the Great Northern C-1 class 0-8-0's for a better picture.

I am doing a two phase DCC conversion starting with the headlamp and motor and then installing a light on the tender with a speaker later.

Thanks ahead of time.

Building model trains is, and has been, a lifelong passion.

By definition my hobby is a pastime and not done for income or to please anyone other than myself. That sounds selfish and self centered but really true.

On the other hand I really love to share my efforts with those who understand.  This forum has been that community.

Combat Trains

The Smithsonian channel is running a series on combat trains. It looks like these are hour long shows in the series.More information here.  http://www.smithsonianchannel.com/shows/combat-trains/1004512

It looks as thought there will be much detail. They have some very excellent productions.

There are some on Monday evening 7/31 and also next Sunday 8/6  Check your local listings.

First Steamer for the Augusta & New Arcadia RR

Dear all

Today I completed my first HOn30 locomotive for my freelanced Augusta & New Arcadia RR, set in the Eastern US in the 1930's.

Working front couplings on steam locos

A question from the UK American Narrow Gauge modelers. A number of friends use the Bachmann, BLI, AMS and MMI products and a issue has been raised over here about working knuckle couplings on the front of locos. All the above manufacturers fit non-working couplings at the correct height which is no good for switching.

Does anyone know of a simple fix for this problem. I might add some of the guys use the Bachmann standard of HO knuckles set at the HO height whereas some of us use Kaydee 0n3 knuckles set at 0n3 height.

Metal wheels

There is a thread on Metal couplers... so I figured I would start one on metal wheels, and trucks.

Whenever I get a chance, I replace my plastic wheels with metal, and my plastic trucks with metal spring trucks. I just like the feel, the look, and how well a car operates with metal, instead of plastic.
