Staying On Track
So, about a month ago, I got a Bachmann Spectrum "George Washington" set... and as much as I LOVE the set, the engine has been an endless heartache. It's a Heavy Mountain 4-8-2 with a Vandy tender (in case folks are unfamiliar with the set... I believe it came out in 2002?) and it's beautiful.
Alco 2-6-0 (Bachmann Sound Value)
I was just impressed today, and I wanted to share it here, because, honestly, ONLY model railroaders will get this (heaven knows the flat mate doesn't)
So, I have three Bachmann Alco 2-6-0s with Sound Value. Two are from the "Echo Valley Express" set (one I got the set, the second was a birthday gift... both basic, and plastic) and the third is the metal one that you buy by itself. All three sound value, and all three look IDENTICAL! (similar weights even)

4 Iconic trains side-by-side
At 06:00 BST on a fine and sunny Sunday 23rd April (10pm Pacific time Saturday) there was once only gathering of four trains and 5 iconic locomotives on the British East Coast Main Line (ECML) north of York.
Broadway Limited steam locomotive drive wheels
I am trying to find new drivers for my Broadway Limited Power House 2-8-2 locomotive ( L&N J-4 #1776 ). The model is no longer in production and BLI does not have any replacement wheel sets. Does anyone know of a source for parts other than BLI?
Thanks in advance.
Bachmann 2-8-0 as a basis for ATSF 1951 class (and a 4-8-4 question)
Hi all,
I am looking / reading around and making some considerations for a couple of HO scale projects i have in mind. I would very much appreciate your input on this.
Would a Bachmann 2-8-0 be a good starting point for getting towards a 1951 class ATSF locomotive? I don't mind working on the locomotive, even changing the cab (with a scratchbuilt one) and other styrene related modifications, as long as the wheels/wheelbase/rods etc are ok, as well as the general shape/size of the boiler.
Scaling down weight
I'm not sure if this is a Eureka! moment, or if I just reinvented the wheel, but.....
