Engine repairs

Hello peeps, I have a HO scale brass Beyer Garratt engine that one out of the two motors are burned out. I would like to have it replaced before sending out to have it paint it. Do you know anyone that does the repair on HO engines ? I would like to have it repaired. Any info will be appreciated.

N-scale or HO: coal hauling short line, 1900-1930

I am a beginner. I am considering building a shelf-type layout inspired by Alberta's "Coal Branch" in the Rocky Mountain foothills of about 80-90 years ago.. Smaller steam locomotives, shorter gondolas. I would like to hand-lay turnouts.

Painting steam locomotive running gear

I am going to be repainting some of my steam locomotives, and am curious about the best approach to painting the running gear, and possibly adding "whitewalls" to the drivers.

Does anyone have any recommendations on what I should/shouldn't do?

Thanks, Skoti

Oriental Powerhouse 2-8-8-2 Boiler Removal

Hello,

I am new to brass and need help removing the boiler to diagnose a short.  Does anyone have any tips for removing it as I do not see any obvious screws.

Sparking on left front wheel.  Brakes are plastic, so I am having trouble finding the issue.

Thanks, Pete

Any experience with smoke units making track dirty?

Anyone on here have experience running smoke units on their layout? Does the track get dirty faster? I would think yes, but it would be nice to find someone with actual experience to confirm this suspicion.

Loksound Steam & Chuff Cams

Hi everyone,

Has anyone tried the Loksound decoders with steam? It seems they have a limited variety of US sounds right now but they are getting better. I have 2 of their decoders so far for diesels and like the ability to change the sounds in the future. Does Tsunami or TCS Wow provide better sound for steam? I am open to recommendations.

Tooting my own horn (sound in an S100)

Just had to post... I just finished up putting a Loksound Select Micro in my son's Rivarossi S100 0-6-0T and I'm pretty damn proud of myself. This was my second sound install and my first in a factory-finished loco, and a freaking tiny one at that.

A quick rundown of everything I did (roughly in order):
Convert decoder from NMRA 8-pin to NEM 651 6-pin plug, using the dummy plug pins
Add speaker and speaker box
Download sound project file to decoder using LokProgrammer

What can cause a surging locomotive

I have an Athearn HO scale Big-Boy with a QSI Titan-U decoder. Everything runs well except sometimes the locomotive surges. A fast-slow-fast cycle that lasts about 1-1.5 seconds. It is most noticeable when pulling a long train and the caboose oscilates back and forth. I think the coupler slack seems to accentuate the speed change.

Some in the club think it is a mechanical problem. I checked the side rods and none of them seem to be binding.

I think it might be a decoder setting, maybe a BEMF setting.

Anyone have any suggestions?

Flying Scotsman slips, Garratts rule, and double Fairlies to Blaenau Ffestiniog

When you're in the U.K., there are always too many trains and too little time. I can't post what's on my phone, but I can link to some YouTube videos that illustrate what I'm seeing.

C&O H7 loco, HO scale, in modern plastic

Have there ever been any manufacturers that have considered making the 'massive' C&O H7 in plastic rather than  just brass?...HO scale

I had a fellow who at one time was going to kit-bash one of my Proto 2-8-8-2 into an H7 lookalike, But it fell thru. And I wanted mine to utilize a vandy tender

Just found this Youtube video of an O scale one,....what a sound !, What a brute !
