A prototype for DC "cab" power block control?
The comment on this link is the interesting part. . . .
I suspect the image is copyright, so I'm not uploading it.
Question about what to include from staging in CTC panel
I have a question regarding how I should design my CTC Panel (for JMRI). When I operate the layout, it will run in a Point-to-Point manner with six staging tracks on either end. In order to turn trains, I have a single reversing loop that is accessed directly for west staging, but east staging crosses over onto the west staging lead to access the reversing loop.
Rule 251 Technicolor
I would like to add some technicolor to the Rule 251 discussion. The GCOR rule (assuming it is the General Code currently being used by railroads) isn't 251 anymore its Rule 9.14 if somebody wants to look it up.
Worlds Smallest Production Train set smaller than Z called "T" Scale
While looking for an article I saw a while back about the worlds smallest Train in commercial production I saw the following it's 1:450 Scale "T" scale. It is to "Z" scale what HO is to "O" 1/2 the size of "Z". you can hold the whole city of New York in your hands and watch trains run
The trains run on real tracks not in a slot or on a single rail like other small railroads do.

Rio Grande Southern: Stock train
Moving stock on western railroads has always been big business and no less on the narrow gauge. When a large block was to be moved off the Rio Grande Southern to market the RGS and the D&RGW worked to move the stock with in the time set by law. Law was animals could not be in the cars for more than 24 hours, the shipper could make 30 hours at his risk. When the move was to be made the railroads had it set up so the cars would go from loading to transshipping point in this time.
Considering "Human Factors Engineering" in Model Railroad Yard Design... (Sound's like a PhD project, doesn't it?)
There are a number of great resources about designing yards (particularly yard throats) that discuss the best ways to move motive power and cars around, but I've never seen a book, magazine article or online resource that that discusses anything to do with moving the model railroad train crews around....
Maine Central Green!
MEC #52 Fresh out of the paint shops at Waterville, Maine. Nice to see that they are painting some locomotives in the old colors. Sorry the picture isn't all that clear but it is very overcast here today and was raining at the time I took this photo with my cell phone.
In and out Trains
I was having problems with train routing on my Port Road layout. I didn't have enough room to include both the Columbia Branch and the Atglen and Susquehanna Junctions in and near Columbia PA. So my initial solution was to model the modern era in which the A&S has been abandoned and only two trains a day operate on the Columbia Branch.
Realistic operating speeds for prototypical action in Yard Work on a model railroad
Ron Newby operates his Alco at prototypical speeds during a recent operating session on Michel Boucher's HO Scale Adirondack Branch of the D&H. To me he really demonstrates the way a train should be handled on a model railroad. It is also a complement to Michel as he ideally takes the stress off the operator by ensuring the schedule is not unreasonable or crowded with other train action. Also the number of cars in the yard is reasonable making room to get about.
