3rd PlanIt Demo

Help! I just installed the 64 bit demo version of 3rd PlanIt (ver 10) and there are no libraries on my computer. Is this a limitation of the demo version, or did the install fail? Any help is appreciated. Thanx.

Getting Organized

I've spent some time getting organized around the railroad this past week.

I built Shelving for my paints and boxes to organize my waybills in.

Paint Shelving; I started out with my table saw and 1/4" plywood and quickly realized this was dumb. I'm not that good at cutting small parts and getting joints to line up is just a pain - so I turned to the laser cutter and created shelf pieces in minutes that are straight and key together. I made the backs from task board - but I cut that with a knife ;)

Layout lighting

All of the new layout lighting options leave me befuddled.

I have a 14x28 foot basement space, with a 7-foot ceiling and the floor joists above running in the 14-foot direction. Layout height will be 4 feet, plus or minus 6 inches.

Balancing cost and appearance, what's the best way to supply clear, even lighting in this space. We're modeling the Intermountain West, so clear, bright daylight is essential.

Fluorescents? Incandescent? CFL? LED?

prep for an operating session

I am going to start a new section on the preparations for an operating session on our model railroad club layout. I will post several entries with the steps I go through to make it happen. For purposes of following along I have posted a copy of the track plan below. That way it should appear on the top of every page.

Atlantic and Great Western Operation Lifesaver commercial

That's going to leave a mark. The Atlantic and Great Western teams up with the Wisconsin State Police to film and Operation Lifesaver commercial. Every 90 seconds a car and train collide.

You can see more of my HO AGW Railway at:

different roads pulling same train

Why do I see trains with engines from more than one road. A couple of weeks ago I saw a train with a single KCS unit on point with 2 UP engines and 2 CSX engines behind. Is this some kind of alternative to getting a routing across a foreign road.

Allagash Ops. Live - do you like it? Feedback appreciated.

Hey guys,

Would appreciate any feedback you might have on the recently-released Ops. Live DVD on my Allagash Railway. Joe is planning a second volume in the next month or two, covering the New Sharon switcher operation. Most of what is in V1 is coverage of road trains.

Comments, good and bad appreciated

Thanks!

Quebec & New England HO Layout

Hello

I have received numerous requests from my YouTube subscribers (QNERailroad) to post my layout's track plan, so I thought I'd give this forum a try. I don't know how well it will show up, but here goes. I added some colour to the visible level track plan to make it a little more readable. It's not perfect. It still needs scenery/ground cover and a hint of ballast, but that requires more time than I can spare at the moment. The hidden staging track plan includes the two helices. Enjoy.

Sugar Cane layout by Jack Luyt this one has animation.

I found this one while looking at videos for HOn3 layouts.  This is very well done.  He models the tropics very well.
