Little tricks learned along the way.........

I am a great believer in sharing new found knowledge and techniques as well as copying ideas I have found.  What is learning at it's basics, other than copying what you have seen or read!  I am hoping this thread will get you to share your thoughts and tricks with us, no matter how trivial you think they may be.

Adios, Estrella & Sonora Grande!

As some of you who follow the On30 Line and Model Railroad Hobbyist discussion forums already know, I have decided to move on to another modeling challenge - after the end of 2014, the Estrella & Sonora Grande RR will be dismantled. Read more abouit this in my next post (to avoid wrapping a long entry on each page).

favorite part of the hobby

What parts of the hobby do you love and which parts do you hate (or like the least)?  Looking at recent posts, particularly “What’s on your work bench” and Rob’s post about rebuilding an older Geep. It appears: Rob enjoys rebuilding older models. Dick hates wiring and I enjoy building wooden kits.

Taylor George model kits

Is anyone on this forum familiar with kits made by George Taylor. I've yet been able to find an image of one of his kits or completed kits on the net.

Sometimes a person has to go a very long distance out of his way to come back a short distance correctly. - Edward Albee, "Zoo Story"

Yes, it's been quiet around here. Summer included a lot of travel -- since the beginning of August we've been away more than we've been home -- and not a whole lot got done in the basement.

Another great Layout: Rue De La Glaciere

There is a well known French HO scale layout that has been published in the LR magazine, and some photos have been posted on an other forum as well. The layout is called "La rue de la Glacière" which is an outstanding layout and shows great modeling skills.  Sharing the pictures here for those of you who are interested on variation of modeling skills, scenery, weathering and philosophy from an ocean away:

Sidewalk - Bar Mills -

I am looking for feedback/comments on Barr Mills Sidewalk kit - HO scale - laser cut kit made of compressed cardboard. My question is what is your experience with it?

I have bought some, painted them, glue them in place and notice it does not seem to take "wash" very well.  Maybe I am wrong.

Thank you

Tea Time! A Brief Manifesto

http://joshuadewolfe.wordpress.com/2014/10/07/tea-time-a-brief-manifesto-on-the-benefits-of-tea-or-idea3-mr/

I like tea. (I am just not a coffee person)

Now, my tea enjoyment can go beyond the cup...... and onto my model railroad! (Part 3 of my "Low (or No) Cost Ways to Enjoy Your Hobby" series)

different roads pulling same train

Why do I see trains with engines from more than one road. A couple of weeks ago I saw a train with a single KCS unit on point with 2 UP engines and 2 CSX engines behind. Is this some kind of alternative to getting a routing across a foreign road.
