Automatic Reversing Unit

Hi again,

I'm considering making some changes to my layout.  Considering adding a Peerless Industries Automatic Reversing Unit (https://www.walthers.com/exec/productinfo/564-525) in lieu of continuous running.  Is anyone familiar with this product?  Is there any easier way to do this?  A Google search brought about only one person who said they were have trouble and they planned on taking back.  I'd just like to know what I'm getting myself into before I spend the money.

As always, I appreciate your help!

Ideas for small switching layout? (Decided on design I think)

I am looking for ideas that I could use for a small 2'x5' switching layout. I have that much space in my room and am trying to plan as much as possible to pitch the idea to my parents.

Layout Animation Ideas?

The teacher in charge of model railroad club has an abundance of basic DC motors simillar to the image shown. Does anyone have some ideas on uses for them in relation to railroads? I know there are many creative people here so I thought I would ask.

Athearn RTR AC4400CW frame

HI,

I recently bought an Athearn RTR AC4400CW shell. I'm looking for a complete RTR frame, but I've had no luck. Any advice on where to look for one?

Thanks,

Making your own insulated railjoiners?

Does anyone know what I could use to insulate railjoiners? I can't purchase anythig so a DIY method would work.

Installing RailPro in a pair of Athearn DCC Ready Genesis GP38-2W's

I threw RailPro modules into my 2 GP38-2W's yesterday to get them onto the layout for an op session today. There was no speaker enclosure in these models so I skipped the sound.

That bothered me something terrible - so today I ripped them apart and did it right!

The details of the installation are in the first comment.

Need some help from the electronics wizards re: transistors and relays

Need some help from the electronics wizards here.

I know what I need (at least I think I do) but I don't know exactly what I need.

I have a device that outputs 1v AC. When it is switched on, I want it to in turn switch on another device that outputs 12-16v DC.

I believe I need to connect a transistor to the 1v AC output and then said transistor to a relay which is connected to the 12-16v DC output device.

DC vs DCC in the same locomotive........

..........I have always wanted to be able to show people how much better a given locomotive runs with DCC vs DC.  I had just the chance lately when I re-motored and tuned up an old New Jersey Custom Brass O scale Alco S-1 for a friend.
