Free-moN Staging Yard - 16"x10'

It was showtime at the Hiller.

Silicon Valley Free-moN had our modules set up and trains running only to find...

ONLY ONE PASSING SIDING ON THE WHOLE LAYOUT????

We had over a week of show and the ability to run only two trains at a time?

What would happen next Sunday when the whole group showed up and wanted to run trains?
Draw straws?
Stand in line?

Something had to be done!

So I built (most of) a staging yard in (most of) a week.

Scratch brush weathering

One of the methods of weathering wooden freight cars is the use of a scratch brush, Micromark has it listed as a "Mini Brush with Brass Bristles."

This method uses a few steps. The first step is to airbrush a model with a base color to represent raw wood.  After that dries then airbrush the car color, in my case this is boxcar red.

Inkjet on Scribed Siding

I have a small stockyard on my layout that I based on one near my home town.  It was owned by a neighbor with a distinctive name and had that name painted in LARGE block letters on its board wall.  When I got out my 40 year old dry transfer letter sheets to add the name, it was of course dried out and unusable.  At my local art supply store there was one employee old enough to remember dry transfers, but none to be had.  Of course I can print any font and size on paper, but I didn't want a sign posted on
