Firefox 13.0.1 & MRH website issues

Recently I've started having problems viewing  / navigating the MRH forums using Firefox 13.0.1 on my Windows XP PC.  The main problems are pages not loading after clicking on the links or very slow performance.  I used Firefox "Help" and it said delete the cookies & cashe which I did.  After doing so I was able to move around the forums and see the postings; however pages were slow to display (3 - 5 seconds).  I'm using a cable modem and the problems don't exist using IE or Google Chrome to navigate the MRH site.

An Unfairy Tale / Shooting myself in the foot!

I've always been somewhat of a trouble maker and I did a little editorial on my website entitled "An Unfairy Tale".  I didn't post the entire article here as I didn't want to pollute the forum; however, you can read it at:

You can post comments on my site if you wish, but let's please keep it civil!  Thanks!

My projects

This project has been on my mind for quite some time. About ten years ago my grandfather passed away and my father and I inherited his stable of german locos and cars in H0 scale. We enjoyed running them on the São Paulo Model Railway club (Sociedade Brasileira de Ferromodelismo), but since I went to University they sat on our shelves (and I dont mean Shelf Layout), until I got a job and decided to build a layout, but for that I bought a NCE powercab.

Where the hobby definitely IS NOT DYING.

We just got back from the UK yesterday. Included in my carry-on were copies of the latest 3 months of Railway Modeler, the June issue of Hornby Magazine (name licensed to Ian Allan Publications by Hornby), an issue of Steam World, and an issue of Heritage Railway (deals with preservation news). I would have bought more, but some of these things weigh a significant percentage of their price in pounds.

Demise of the Hobby Shops -part deux

Just saw this on CNN yesterday. Seems it's finally not just Hobby Shops that are suffering from on-line merchandising.

Bonanza!

Bonanza! - that's what I hit while I was visiting my son this past week.  You see, he is an amateur photographer and recently upgraded his camera gear and said he would sell me his "old" gear at a good price.  Since I'm using a simple fixed lens "point-n-shoot" camera I was anxious to upgrade.

Here's what I got from him

(1) Konica Minolta Maxxum 7D  digital SLR camera body, 6.1 megapixel

(2) Konica Minolta VC-7D vertical battery grip

(1) Konica Minolta 28-80 / 3.5-5.6 lens

Why trains?

Why trains? I LOVE trains and have since I was a young child. I was on a train recently (Cresent #19 to Slidell) and thinking - why do I love trains? I came up with a numer of reasons: 1.) They are BIG; 2.) They are HEAVY being made of lots of steel; 3.) When they move they make the ground shake; 4.) They are LOUD - I love the loco Horn, the engine sounds, the rattles, clinks , clacks, pops, and other noises they make; 5.) I love the way the track deflects when the wheels go over it; 6.) I love the smell of a loco under power struggling to pull the train.

MRH challenge - a few small trees

If you look at a stand of evergreens at the edge of a cutblock, you see a lot of grey(ish) more or less bare trunks, and some branches and foliage at the top.  If the clear area was logged off a while ago there'll be all sorts of small bushes and deciduous trees growing up.  I decided to see if I could reproduce this effect at a distance with a minimum of detailed tree construction.  Here's the result of a couple of evenings work.  Each "tree"&nbs
