New to me, the MRH podcast

I know it's been around for a while, but until I was interviewed (a little shameless self promotion there cheeky) I had never taken any interest in the MRH podcast on iTunes.  I downloaded iTunes, downloaded the podcast, and I have to say, I'm impressed!  Paul does a great job interviewing and editing, and it's something I'll be enjoying in the future.  If you haven't checked it out, by a

Well, when I signed on today, I was informed that I'd been a member for 4 years and 20 hours!

Hopefully many more to come!

La Grange & The Helix on the GS&M

Using a section of oak to test bend the plywood that will lead out of the main Helix and into La Grange.  You can see Gila Grains from this angle.

Photo of the Helix exit.  You can see I have not fully finished the front face of the bench work yet at the end of the 1x6.  Gila Springs in on the back wall to the right.

One Step Forward..

This week, while waiting for my local hobby shop to special order the more powerful booster/command station, I found myself contemplating the trackwork. I am happy with almost everything that I have done. But the stretch across the back on the second level has been nagging at me. Problem is that when I built it I used a 3-way turnout in one place. Then discovered that I needed a 3-way to make the yard work (much more compact than a string of number 6s...). But I thought I could get away with it... And it does work, sort of.

HI Rail Ops

Being back in New England for a couple of weeks, I was able to attend the regularly scheduled ops sessions on my friends layout (If you live near Lake Champlain, and you are a member of opsig, you should check it out!).

Just as a quick reminder, this is an American Flyer S layout, designed purely for operations, and based on the New Haven.

My host was kind enough to offer me my choice of jobs, and I chose the road freights. I can get enough switching now at home, but I can't really run long trains.

22 Stories Up - Barre Socialist Labor Party Hall

Looking for structures to help identify the area, I decided to start with the Socialist Labor Party Hall in Barre, Vermont.

Onwards - Control Panel and Ro-Ro Elevator Connections

The BQR has made a couple of major steps forward since last posting:

The Upper Spine

The lower deck is built of what I call the backbone of the layout 3 4x1 with plywood sandwiched in between them.  The Backbone is the anchor for the peninsula.  The spine sits directly above the Backbone.

The Upper spine is a 6" x 10' long section of wood that sits on top of Oak Uprights.  Every thing is tied together with Metal - T that will have lag bolts running thought the web of the spine.
